A new skin type

You’ve heard of oily & sensitive skin – even combination skin.  But, in my mind there is a new skin type and maybe just because I’m getting older.

Different skin types

Surely you’ve heard of these skin types:

  • Dry skin
  • Oily skin (and thus, acne-prone skin)
  • Combination skin
  • Sensitive skin
  • And, lastly Normal skin

But, I believe there is a new skin type.  I’ll get to that in a moment.  Let’s first review each of the more commonly recognized skin types.

Dry skin

Dry skin is characterized by dryness on the skin – it could be in patches or all over.  It could be because you’ve used a product that dried out your skin or it could be because your skin is parched.

Oily skin

You know oily skin because of the slick areas.  They look shiny and feel greasy.  You may be more prone to acne breakouts.  Your skin could be oily because of an overproduction of oil if you’ve tried to dry out your skin.

Combination skin

This isn’t a new skin type.  If you are afflicted with both oily and dry skin, you have combination skin.  You find it hard to know what products to use:  one that doesn’t dry out your dry parts and one that doesn’t make you more oily / acne prone.

Sensitive skin

Redness or irritation anyone?  Yep, that’s sensitive skin.  You skin can kind of burn and it probably feels itchy / dry sometimes.  Sometimes it feels OK but you have to be careful what you use on your skin.

For me, I can’t use anything with fragrance.  An example is if I use a fragranced lotion on my hands.  My hands turn bright red almost instantly!

Normal skin

While few people seem to have this skin type, there are those that do.  Basically, the skin is neither dry, oily, sensitive, or combination.

There is a new skin type, in my mind and here is what I think it is.

A new skin type

A new skin type to me is mature skin.  If you’re over 40, you’ll become familiar with this one.  You need to take special care of this skin type to keep it from aging.  That’s why I think it’s important to always wear sunscreen, even when you’re younger, so that your skin can stay as youthful as possible.  And, always wash your face – use a mild cleanser in the morning and at night, before bed.  Next, I recommend exfoliating with your Nutt So Ruff scrub bar.
