Why I support small business
As a woman owned small business, I know how hard it is to own and run a small business. You wear many hats – from the purchasing of raw materials to production of goods; from the marketing and advertising to the speaking engagements and shows – we do it all. So, whenever I see a small local business, I try to support them.
Supporting Small Business Saturday everywhere
Even when I travel to other cities around the country, I like to stop into the local shops. These are great places to get some local foods and souvenirs. I’d much rather spend my money on a quality, hand-made item than I would on something mass produced from the big box stores. These hand-made items have so much more character and better quality than something produced in the factory. While I don’t discount factory items (I mean, some things are more efficient that way and who would want a refrigerator that was made by hand?), I love to see the many interesting and creative things that people are making. There’s a sense of peace you get when you can make something yourself. And, if these people are willing to share their goods with me, I’d like to support them!
