Acne scarring and the basal membrane

The basal membrane keeps the epidermis and the dermis where they should be.  Without this, these two parts would come apart!!!  And, this is where scarring is a problem.

It is this membrane that decides if you get scars from your acne.  If this is damaged in any way, you will get scarring.  If your pimples only go as far as your epidermis, you will be lucky to not have any or very little scarring.  However, if your skin is dark, you might get some damage to the top with hyper-pigmentation (dark spots) being the result.  But, once this membrane is damaged, you are likely to get a scar forever.  If the area only has minor injury to the skin, the scarring may be difficult to notice – which is good news.  But this is why you want to treat acne.  The longer you don’t deal with it, the more permanent scarring you are likely to get – possibly even getting the “acne – ice pick scars”.

So, don’t delay in getting treatment.
