Period acne in 30s

Ever ask yourself why am I getting acne in my thirties?  If you’re getting period acne in 30s, here’s why…and what you can do.

Period acne in 30s

Acne at 30 never had it before?  That’s frustrating because you thought you escaped the ‘curse’ of acne.  But, here’s what is happening – in fact, here are several reasons why you have adult acne at age 30:

  • Hormonal changes – yep, just like when we hit puberty, there are hormone changes.  And, just because you were lucky enough to not have to deal with acne the first time around, it doesn’t exempt you from acne problems into adulthood.
  • Excessive oil production – the oil on our skin is called sebum.  If you have excess oil production, there could be a reason and one of those reasons can easily be fixed.
  • Clogged pores – are you cleansing the right amount and properly?
  • Inflammation – are you taking good care of yourself?

Adult acne in 30s and 40s

As an adult, it is frustrating to get acne.  Adult acne seems like it shouldn’t happen, but yet it does.  If you have acne in 30s and 40s, there are things you can do.  Acne in 30s treatment is much like any acne treatment:  you just need to know what you’re dealing with.  With a little ‘fight’ you can control it.

Hormonal changes

Our hormones are changing all the time and that just means we need to change with it.  That means taking care of ourselves and making sure our bodies have what it needs.  Eating right by getting enough vitamins and minerals goes a long way.  Drinking plenty of clean water also helps by flushing out toxins.  Not drinking every day helps as well.

We hear this all the time and sometimes choose to ignore the advice but you have more control over your health than you realize.  You can manage your period acne in 30s by taking care of yourself.  I dare you to try.

Excessive oil production

Do you all of a sudden feel like your face is a giant oil slick – as if you suddenly started to get oily skin?  The question I have for you is this:  are you using products intended to dry your skin?  If so, you may inadvertently be contributing to your oily skin / adult acne in your 30s problem.

The reason is that if you intentionally dry out your skin, your skin responds by producing even more oil to compensate for the loss of oil.  If you balance it out, it will go back to a normal oil balance and will help to control your acne.  So, stop using alcohol products on your skin.  Use a gentle cleanser instead and you’ll soon notice your skin not as oily.

Clogged pores

This one is near and dear to my heart – clogged pores.  Are you exfoliating regularly.  Do you know that not everyone should exfoliate the same amount of days per week?  It all depends on your skin type.  If you generally have dry skin, you need to exfoliate less than someone with oily skin.  If you exfoliate too much, it can cause problems.  Likewise, if you don’t exfoliate enough, it can clog pores.  Know your skin type so you can exfoliate the right amount.

Inflammation

This goes along with hormone changes but I separate it because it’s worth pointing out.  Not eating well – say, by eating processed foods, consuming a lot of sugar, etc. – causes inflammation in the body.  Inflammation can cause acne.  Eat well and see if your period acne in 30s starts to diminish.
