Bee propolis benefits for skin

Are there bee propolis benefits for skin?  Read on to find out how this amazing by-product of bees can help skin look amazing.

What is propolis?

So, what is bee propolis?  And, are there bee propolis benefits for skin?  We’ll get to the 2nd question here in a moment but let’s first talk about what propolis is.

Bee propolis is also known as bee glue.  Bees use it in their homes (their hive) to glue things together and keep the hive sturdy.  And, let me tell you – it is quite the glue.  When you open up a hive, you need special tools that help you open it up.  Everything (and I mean everything) is stuck together.  Bees use it to fill cracks and holes – just like you might use a filler for some cracks in your house so that rodents or insects can’t get in.  It’s the same for bees.

Ants, mice or other insects / rodents will try to get into the hive.  Why not, right?  There’s the obvious honey that is so delicious but also the honeybees themselves.  They are a source of protein for some rodents.  Bees make the propolis and seal whatever they can to make their home secure.

Take a look at the picture above.  This is a picture shows the bee propolis on the frames.  See the grid like strands on each frame (row)?  That’s the bee propolis.

But, can bee propolis have benefits for skin?  Let’s find out.

According to medicalnewstoday.com, bee propolis has many medicinal properties, including anti-bacterial properties.  While not regulated by the FDA, bee propolis has been used by many for skin care because of these properties.  Anti-bacterial products help heal wounds and isn’t an acne blemish a type of wound?  Bacteria in the pore that causes acne may be helped by using bee propolis.

You won’t want to use it straight as it is really sticky (as explained above) but you can make all kinds of products from propolis.  It can be good for any skin type too – including oily skin as well as dry skin.
