Endocrine Disruptors in Micellar Water
Micellar water is great but there could be some hidden problems. We know hormone disruptors fake out our natural hormones. We need to watch for endocrine Disruptors in micellar water. Here’s what to look for.
What are endocrine disruptors?
Endocrine disruptors have negative effects on our bodies. They mimic our natural hormones which cause our bodies to think we have enough of the right kinds of hormones. When this happens, our bodies don’t work properly and this can cause all kinds of problems.

Because there are so many endocrine disruptors in our skin care, we need to watch what products we are buying so that we don’t inadvertently cause our own problems. This means that there are endocrine disruptors in micellar water and you need to look at the ingredients.
What is micellar water?
You may have heard the term ‘micellar water’ lately – something that has been touted as the perfect skin care product. Some common uses and benefits are:

- Removes dirt and oil so this can act as a simple cleanser and can even be used to remove make-up.
- Great for all skin types and keeps skin looking its best.
- Non-drying.
- Gentle
- Easy to use
How awesome does this sound? It’s seems like the best all around product. Not only can you remove dirt and oil, but also make-up – for any skin type! It doesn’t dry out your skin, it’s gentle and best of all, it’s easy to use. But, if you’ve been concerned about the toxins in your skin care products, you may have opted for using micellar water in your skin care regimen.

But, just like anything else, you need to be careful and pay attention to the ingredients as they aren’t all created equal. Unfortunately, companies that manufacture their brands’ micellar water use marketing to promote their product as the best. This means they may use extra ingredients to make them more appealing. It doesn’t mean that the ingredients are good for you. In fact, they may be toxic and you may unwittingly be using toxins you would rather not use.
Endocrine disruptors in micellar water
I’m all about simple when it comes to skin care so I, too, fell for the marketing. This product said it was for oily skin, which mine is. The first micellar water I purchased included Hexylene Glycol.
This product said it was for oily skin, which mine is but I neglected to read the ingredients on the back. I knew better but was in a hurry. Luckily, I only wasted a few dollars on this product so it wasn’t a huge loss. Still, it was money lost but lesson learned. You need to watch for this thievery before you spend your money. Obviously, I fell for it too but this is why I want to point it out because it’s easy to get fooled. Unfortunately, there are deceiving product labels out there.

Back to the Hexylene glycol. Glycols can be toxic to the brain and nervous system. This particular glycol can also affect the kidney and lungs. So, definitely something to avoid.
Lesson to be learned
Read all ingredient labels before you purchase any skin care product, even micellar water. It will help your hormones!
