Habits to Avoid
I have bad habits – I’ll admit it. But, everyone does. The goal is to manage those bad habits so they don’t overtake your life. Below is a list of habits to avoid!
7 Bad Habits to Avoid:
- Using expired make-up products.
- Not using sun screen and even worse, purposefully trying to tan
- Picking skin.
- Rubbing eyes
- Not washing your make-up off before going to sleep.
- Exfoliating improperly
- NOT crying
Using Expired Make-up Products
This is a definite No-No! You should never use any products that are expired – EVER! They could have bacteria in it and can cause all kinds of skin and even eye problems. So, always check your make-up and skin care products to make sure they are still good.
Sunscreen / Tanning
I say it all the time – you need to use sunscreen. You’ll thank me as you get older. And, if you’re reading this and you’re in your teenage years or your twenties, heck – even your thirties, you may not think it’s necessary. But, as we age, we get a lot of skin damage from the sun. Take my word for it and put that sunscreen on. If possible, stay out of the sun during peak times (usually 11AM – 2PM).
Picking skin
I have known people that have OCD and couldn’t stop picking at their skin. But, even if you don’t have a disorder, you may still sometimes occasionally pick your skin. Don’t do it! You run the risk of damaging your skin and causing scarring. That’s the last thing you need. So, find something else to do – get up, get a glass of water, go for a walk – do whatever you have to do in order to stop this bad habit because this is definitely a bad habit to avoid.
Rubbing eyes
Oh, when you rub your eyes, it feels so good, doesn’t it? But, you’re damaging the capillaries and the sensitive skin around your eyes. This will cause you to get dark circles sooner than you probably thought you would. It will be like you constantly look tired.
Washing your face before bed
I don’t know what it is about this one but I have always washed my face before bed. I always liked a clean face on my pillow. Maybe it was because I always had oily skin, I just wanted to get it clean but I have always had this as my bedtime regimen and I think you should too. Not washing our faces can lead to breakouts because that dirt (the make-up and the oil) can clog our pores. Do what you can to remove it before bed so your skin can breathe overnight.
Exfoliating
Exfoliating is so important but so many people do it wrong. Some don’t exfoliate at all and some do it too much. For more information on how often you should exfoliate, depending on your skin type, see: How often should I exfoliate?
NOT Crying
Yes, I said, not crying. We need to let our emotions out. When we’re sad, we need to let it out. If we hold it in by not crying, this isn’t a sign that you are “strong”. Sure, you don’t want to cry all the time but when the feeling overtakes you, you need a good cry. For day 29 of our 30 day challenge, I want you to listen to how you’re feeling. If your angry, scream. If you’re sad, cry. Feel your emotions. It’s OK.
And, that’s it! These easy tips can help you get better skin and actually feel better about yourself! So, avoid these bad habits and see how your life can change!
