World Mental Health Day
October 10 is World Mental Health Day! WorldMentalHealthDay.com wants us to recognize the day so we can talk about it. We all go through times in our lives that are difficult. When that happens, we may feel alone and we may not feel like we can talk to anyone. We feel overwhelmed and it starts to affect how we feel and even how we look. This especially starts to happen to us in our mid 30’s and into our 40’s, causing stress and anxiety that could get worse, if left unchecked.

Thankfully, World Mental Health Day has been celebrated since 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation of Mental Health, according to wikipedia.com. It gives us an opportunity to talk about how we feel.

There could be a multitude of reasons that we don’t feel right. It could be stress, an illness, or financial trouble. Whatever the reason is, when we feel depressed, we aren’t living life fully so let’s take the How do you feel today quiz to see how you are doing!

- Are you able to concentrate?
- Are you able to do something to de-stress?
- Do you feel down or hopeless today or in the past few days?
Let’s next dive into each one of these…
Feeling out of whack
When you think about how you feel, do you feel like you’re not the same person that you were? If you’re not quite feeling right or the same way you did a few days or months ago, you may be depressed. If there is something that is making you worry a lot and you can’t focus on anything else, it may be time to start talking to someone. Perhaps you’ve lost interest in things that used to make you happy but now you have no energy for it.
What about your sleeping patterns? If you’re still sleeping well at night, that’s great. But, if you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, you may have a problem that needs to be addressed. This is why taking the ‘How do you feel today quiz’ is so important. In connection with sleep, are you able to do something to help you de-stress? For example, if you can take a walk, this can help your mind sort through what is bothering you and can, in turn, help you deal with the issue and allow your body to rest at night – getting a good nights’ sleep. It can also help with concentration.
Appetite for life
Next is your appetite. What is your diet like? Are you eating healthful foods and drinking enough water? Or, are you eating processed foods loaded with salt and sugar? Are you drinking a lot of caffeine? All these things can make depression worse. Plus, it can really do a number on our skin. If you have a constant stomachache, you need to look at what you are eating. Changing your habits here could have a bigger impact than you realize.
Feeling hopeless
Lastly, if the things that are getting you down are making you feel hopeless, something needs to happen. We all feel down at some point in our lives. It could be stress of a job, children, or health and we each deal with stressors differently. Also, something that is bothering you today might have a greater impact on your well-being than you realize. If you’re feeling hopeless, it’s time to talk.
Why is this important?
You may not feel like a little stressor can have a big impact on your life, but left unchecked, it can turn into something greater. The more stress we have, the more it affects our body. We’ll start to see it in our appetite and our diet which can lead to hormonal issues that can cause skin problems and other hormonal problems like fibroids, heavy bleeding and even acne in our 40’s. It’s all related yet we don’t realize it.
To keep your mind healthy and skin looking beautiful into your 30’s, 40’s, and beyond, focus on your mental health. This is how you can save money with skin care because you don’t have to spend a lot to look and feel beautiful!
