Low iron during period
One of the issues with having unusually heavy periods is being anemic. Low iron during period is a common problem with women and it could cause fatigue.
Iron deficiency and periods
When we are menstruating, there is a very high chance that we are at risk of having an iron deficiency. With all that blood loss, especially if we are dealing with inadequate hormones, we are bound to feel tired and have low energy. We feel sluggish which means we don’t do the things we want or need to do. Sure, you can get some things done but it’s hard to be fully present when you are so tired.

Problems caused by Being anemic and having your period
Low iron during period is a cause for concern. Not only do we not have the energy to plow through our workday / workload, but we don’t have the energy to deal with other, arguably more important things like:
- Family time
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Taking care of our health
- Taking care of those we love
- Enjoying hobbies, like gardening, painting / drawing, sewing, etc. – anything where we can use our creative skills.
- Going out
- Seeing family or friends
- Growing (i.e. doing things that help us grow in our lives)
- Volunteering

It affects our lives and we need to be mindful if this might be a reason for our tiredness. It’s important to talk to our doctors about possible solutions. The last thing we need is to not enjoy life. There’s no reason for it. If you knew that you could spend more meaningful time with your family, wouldn’t you do it?

If you don’t enjoy cooking, maybe you enjoy other things like painting or going out to dinner once a month with a close friend. Perhaps you like to read but you never can stay awake for long to get through even a section of a book. These are all reasons to do something about it because it doesn’t have to be this way.
Your doctor may suggest iron pills or perhaps there are some tests that need to be done to rule other things out. But, it’s important to bring your concerns to your doctor to see what the solutions are for you. Make a note to visit your primary doctor or your gynecologist and have your list ready of all your symptoms / concerns. Be proactive and start living the life you deserve. Low iron during period doesn’t have to limit you. Take control so you can start enjoying this life now.
Life is all about being able to enjoy it.
