Sweet!
If you have a sweet tooth like I do, it may be hard for you to ever think about changing your habits but I’ll show you how Sweet! it is to make some easy changes that can really help your mind and body feel better for the long run.
The US Food System
Unfortunately, the US food system contains a lot of corn syrup, specifically High Fructose Corn Syrup. It’s in so many things but it is so bad for you! If you’re struggling with your health…skin care included, you may want to eliminate this from anything you put into your body. It’s been linked to Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease…this disease basically is killing your liver. You’re damaging your liver by consuming this ingredient. When I first realized how much ‘junk’ (like high fructose corn syrup) is in our food supply, I was shocked. For some reason, I thought those who are feeding our food supply were looking out for us. Unfortunately, those people are corporations that are more interested in their bottom lines than your waist lines and for that matter, your health.
Do something now!
The scary thing is that most people have no symptoms so they continue to eat foods that contain corn syrup – never knowing what they are doing to themselves. Then, we hit our forties and suddenly we have some issues – sometimes only minor – but they can turn into major health issues over time – IF you don’t make some changes. But the good news is that it doesn’t have to be that hard!
What to eat vs. what not to eat
With all the food choices we have, it’s hard to know what to eat but the good news is that if you just start looking at food labels, you’ll know pretty quickly what you should avoid.
Here are some favorite swaps I use:
- Raisins instead of candy
- Coconut sugar instead of sugar
- Other foods to stay away from if you experience acne
All of these swaps, of course, still need to be in moderation. While you’re at it, instead of shopping for some items, why not start a small garden? Consider herbs like parsley or chives, strawberries or onions? Once you start a small garden, you’ll discover how food actually tastes and you’ll start making better choices at the grocery store. Bottom line: My advice is to read food labels and eliminate corn syrup from your diet unless you don’t mind risking your life by possibly getting liver cancer or liver failure.
What are some swaps that you have used before? I’d love to hear!
Eating better will lead to better health and better skin! Guaranteed! Now, that’s sweet!
