Why is BVO bad for skin
You work hard to have good skin so why is BVO bad for skin? Before we get to that, we have to understand what BVO is.
What is BVO?
BVO is the abbreviation for Brominated vegetable oil. It’s an emulsifier which means that it keeps things from separating, especially in beverages – flavored beverages. I mean no one wants floaties in their drinks because that’s just disgusting. But, let me ask you, why are you drinking flavored beverages anyway? Why not add your own lemon juice from a fresh squeezed lemon into your water?
Lemon water is so healthy for you. Not only are you hydrating with delicious, clean water but your getting a little boost of vitamin C.
Why is BVO bad for skin?
So, why is BVO bad for skin? The FDA (that is, the Food and Drug Administration) has originally marked this as ‘Generally Regarded as Safe’ – as long as it is in small amounts. The problem is that it may be a small amount in a serving but what serving size are people actually consuming? Let me explain….
If one drink is 2 servings, and you drink the entire bottle, you are getting 2 doses of the BVO. Then, what if you drink multiples in a day? It all builds up. So, again – why is BVO bad for skin?
Any food additives can be toxic – especially in higher amounts. Toxicity can lead to inflammation and that could lead to acne and other skin conditions. Do yourself a favor and start reading labels. If any product contains even a small amount of a substance that could be toxic, stay away from it and find something else instead.
If you don’t know what is toxic, here’s a good rule of thumb: Eat fresh, whole foods most of the time. Be wary of any packaged foods, and that includes beverages. Drink some clean water and add your own citrus juice like lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit. Eat to reduce inflammation – not contribute to it. Your skin will thank you.
