Alcohol Skin damage
Beer, Wine, Seltzer, Cider, a mixed drink – what’s your beverage of choice? If you thought alcohol only affected your liver, you may be surprised to find out that alcohol skin damage is a thing and can contribute to aging.
Dehydration
You can enjoy an alcoholic beverage without having to sacrifice good skin; otherwise, you risk alcohol skin damage. Many people enjoy an alcoholic drink every now and again and in moderation, it’s fine.

Celebrating a special occasion with family and friends is part of life and you should enjoy it. Overdoing it, though, should be avoided. Your body can become dehydrated if you drink too much alcohol and not enough water. So, the last thing you want to do is not get enough hydration. In order to keep your skin plump but not puffy and your skin blemish free, when enjoying a beverage, don’t overdo it.

Hormones
Did you also know that alcohol has an effect on your hormones? This is because our blood sugar can spike causing our insulin to go bonkers. Check out these insulin resistance warning signs to see if you’ve experienced this. If you have, you need to make some changes – Now!

Our levels of estrogen and progesterone are ‘off’ and it can cause all kinds of menstrual problems. If you notice clots during your period or if you have really bad menstrual cramps, take note because you are going down a road you really don’t want to go down. Take it from me – I learned the hard way. Luckily, though, I turned it around but don’t let it go too far like I did because alcohol is doing more damage than just on your hormones…

Alcohol skin damage
Because our skin is becoming dehydrated when we drink alcohol, it can cause acne. If you’re still suffering from acne as an adult, you’re likely drinking too much. The drier you are, the more wrinkles you’ll get. As we age, we want to keep our skin in good condition – we don’t want to be dealing with acne and wrinkles.

Another skin issue is the bags or dark circles under your eyes – this is caused by too much alcohol as well. On top of it all, drinking in excess means our bodies can’t take in essential vitamins and minerals that can cause free radical damage. You have toxins floating around your body causing all kinds of problems, including inflammation.

How frustrating is that? But it doesn’t have to be that way. Ensuring that you get enough hydrating and limiting alcohol intake should take care of those skin problems. It’s not hard to have good skin and it doesn’t have to be expensive. When you know why your skin is reacting the way that it is, you can make those simple changes to reverse it.
Help is on the way
So, now you know that drinking too much is damaging your skin and that this is why you should drink in moderation. Knowing that is half the battle but if you’re trying to reverse some of the effects of a night out, the best thing to do is to eat REALLY well afterwards or the next day. For example, I’ve often talked about how wonderful celery juice is for you. Proper Nutrition will help your skin bounce back!
