Healing Acne Scars
If you have acne scars, you’re probably interested in healing acne scars. Understanding which type of acne scar you have can help to deal w/ them.
Hyperpigmentation and other red scars
You may not have realized this is a type of acne scar but I’m sure you’ve noticed the redness after a pimple starts to go away. Healing acne scars when you have this hyperpigmentation can take some time. You might have also noticed other redness – like broken capillaries.
With these types of scars, nourishing your skin can really help. Here are some ingredients to look for when dealing with these types of scars.
Ingredients to look for
There are actually several ingredients that can help. Here are some and I’ll also tell you my favorite one.
- Vitamin B3 – also known as Niacinamides.
- Vitamin C or Ascorbic acid
- Ester-C
- Sea Buckthorn oil
Out of all of these, the one I like the most is sea buckthorn oil. I buy a bottle of just the oil and use this after I wash my face. It won’t clog pores and can really help. I generally get the hyperpigmentation scars so when I see one, I go straight for the sea buckthorn oil.

Other types of scars
Unfortunately, there are some other types of scars:
- Ice pick scars. These are deep scars and it looks like they were formed by an ice pick.
- Deep holes – these are often referred to as craters. There is probably damage to the collagen, which is in the dermis layer of the skin.
- Keloid scars – if you have severe acne, you most likely have these types of scars.
These types of scars will need to be dealt with by a dermatologist. Don’t waste your money on trying to fix these yourself. These scars go deeper into the skin layers and you need a professional to deal with them.

Understanding and healing acne scars
Healing acne scars can be a challenge but if you know what type of scar you have, you may be able to manage it at home with some simple ingredients that nourish your skin. For the more severe acne / acne scars, going to a doctor is the best option. You’ll save a lot of money and headache by attacking it the most efficient way. And, even the mayoclinic.com suggests making sure you wear sunscreen to help – I think that’s great advice. Don’t forget to choose the right sunscreen.
