How to stop flaky skin

Do you get frustrated with your skin?   Sometimes it’s oily, sometimes dry, sometimes in between.  Here’s how to stop flaky skin.

My flaky skin

I generally have oily facial skin.  My entire head seems to just be oily.  If I don’t wash my hair daily, by day 2 I look like I stuck my head in a vat of oil.  Kinda gross!

So, I make sure to cleanse regularly – but I don’t overdo it because I’ve said it before…If you over cleanse, your skin will tend to produce even more oil, causing more breakouts.  Strange thing is that I sometimes get flaky skin and it will be only on certain parts of my face.  The most common for me is the crease where my nose and cheek meet.  The other place is my forehead.  If you sometimes have this problem, read on to find out how to stop flaky skin!

Causes of dry flaky skin

The 2 biggest issues stem from your drinking and eating habits.  Luckily, this is easy to resolve.

Drinking

The most common issue is dehydration.  Have you been drinking enough water?  When I start seeing the dry skin and start asking myself ‘why is my skin dry and flaky’, I realize I haven’t been very diligent on drinking my water.  Ugh!  Obviously, the solution is to get back on track.  The other drinking issue is too much alcohol.  Have you been partying a lot because this could be another cause of dehydration.  I’m not a partier so this isn’t generally the issue for me but I want to point it out in case any of you may have had too much high octane beverages recently.

Eating

The other issue resulting in dry skin flakes on face, head, or anywhere on your body is your diet – it’s not getting the nutrients it needs.  When I skip my daily lunch salad, which contains lots of vitamins, I start to notice it in my flaky skin.  We also need omega 3 fatty acids.  If you’ve been eating junk food, it’s time to start eating better so that your face gets the vitamins it needs.

Flaky skin on face treatment

See how easy it is to reverse some skin issues you are having?  Eating a well-balanced diet and drinking enough water can really make a difference.  We struggle all the time to find the right solution to our skin care problems.  Many times, changing our diets can go a long way.  I’m not suggesting that this is the only reason – I’m not a doctor.  But, I do know that when we eat badly, our skin suffers.  When you’re looking for a quick fix, don’t automatically go to the expensive treatments – look at what you’re currently doing and see what changes need to be made right in front of you.

Another treatment is to use facial creams that include hyaluronic acid.  This will help keep you moisturized.  A humidifier would also be helpful if the air inside your home is dry in the winter.  Lastly, watch your stress.  The higher the stress, the more cortisol you have, which will deplete your natural hyaluronic acid levels.  Keep your stress in check for skin without flakes as well as other issues this causes, like leaky gut syndrome.

If you do have flaky skin, it’s always a good idea to exfoliate.  Get those dead skin cells off your skin so that your skin can breathe – it’ll be healthier and your skin will look and feel better!  Hint:  you can try our Nutt So Ruff Face scrub.  It’s a great face scrub for dry skin, sensitive skin, normal skin, and even acne prone skin – basically, any skin type.

How to stop flaky skin, and good skin in general, doesn’t have to be expensive.  Trust me when I tell you.  Early in my life, I tried so many remedies – to no avail.  It wasn’t until I started to change things I was doing that started to make a difference in my appearance.  Here are just a few of the simple things I did.

  • Understanding what my skin needed
  • Eating better
  • Drinking more water
  • Exercising
  • Meditation

The good news you can have great skin.  How to stop flaky skin isn’t that hard and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money!  In fact, there are many ways to save money on skincare.
