Period Pimples

Do you get period pimples?  Many women get what’s known as period pimples and it can be before your period or afterwards.  Either way, it’s annoying.  Getting zits on top of your monthly visitor is not fun!

Period breakouts or period pimples

Ah, the curse of so many women.  Not only do we have to endure the pain and all that goes with having our periods, but we also might experience period breakouts, mood swings, and cramps.  It’s not fair – that is for sure – but we can learn to manage it – including period pimples.  And, life is all about managing things, isn’t it?  So, whether you get your menstrual acne before or after your period, let’s see how we can do just that.

7 Common symptoms of Period Acne:

  • Acne – obviously.  And, with that comes, redness and swelling around the area.
  • Bloating – ugh, heating pad anyone?
  • Pain – time for the Midol!
  • Moodiness – our poor families!
  • Brain fog – you can’t seem to hold a thought in your head or remember things!
  • Fatigue – you just feel like staying in bed for the day (or the week!)!
  • Depression – where are the box of tissues?

Do any of these symptoms ring true for you?  I can pretty much tick each of these boxes.  I don’t like any one of these symptoms but today, we’re focusing on period pimples.

Breaking out before period

We all experience periods differently.  Everyone is different.  If you get PMS acne, you’re not alone.   I talked about this in another article not that long ago called:  Period Acne.  But, now I’d like to challenge my own idea.  Acne is generally due to hormonal causes and it can be difficult to manage your hormones.  So, ensuring you cleanse your skin properly can go a long way to helping control and manage your breakouts.  But, what if your acne is worse after your period?

One other thing – I’m often asked if you should pop pimples / pop blackheads.  There is a way to do it.  Check out How to extract blackheads safely.

Acne worse after period

Again, everyone is different and they will experience symptoms differently than you might.  If you get pimples after period, it could also be a sign of a hormonal issue.  Hormones in our bodies constantly communicate and whatever happens in our bodies is due to this communication.  Estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are the key hormones in our menstrual cycle and any issues you are dealing with are probably because there is an imbalance there.

Suffering with our periods and acne

It’s not necessary to suffer when we get our periods.  All the symptoms we’ve talked about definitely do cause issues.  So, I hope you can come with me on this journey to manage our periods and not be controlled by them.

Period acne can really hurt our self confidence / self-esteem.  This can make us depressed and withdraw from the world.  We need to change that and we need to change it NOW!  Let’s instead look at how we work and figure out what our bodies are actually telling us so that we can control this monthly monster!
