Very Heavy Period
One thing is for certain, if you have a very heavy period, it is traumatic! When your quality of life is affected by an unusually heavy period, it’s normal to feel scared.
Stages of life
Teenage Periods
As a teenager, when puberty hits, things just seem to go haywire all of a sudden. You get your period and it’s all over the place. Some common issues teens face:
- Anemia during period
- Skipped periods
- Irregular cycles
- Heavier bleeding – a very heavy period
- Missed periods
- Period pain / cramps that are severe

Good, bad, or ugly – Many doctors’ answer to these problems is to put the teenager on the birth control pill.
Twenties – Thirties Periods
Again, everybody is different so some women continue to experience the issues they did when they first started puberty and some normalize. In this stage, you have a lot going on in your life. You’re moving out on your own, maybe you’re getting married and maybe you’re having children. A lot can happen with your hormones, especially when stress is involved. Further, our diets may not be what they should be – we’re just too busy and too stressed to deal with our health / diet.

Did you know that perimenopause starts in our mid 30’s? All of a sudden, you may have 100 symptoms of perimenopause OR you don’t. Not everyone experiences these changes at the same time. You may notice perimenopause fatigue or changes in your mood – all due to the amount of hormones you have or don’t. One of these issues could be a very heavy period.
Your Forties
All I can say about this phase is chaos! At least it is for me. But, I’m told that it doesn’t have to be traumatic. What is that you say? And, this is what I’m trying to determine – is this really true? Come with me to find out.

During this time, there is a lack of progesterone, which will cause heavy periods and of course, heavy periods anemia. This could mean heavy period flooding (no fun, by the way). And, here is where we start having more perimenopause fatigue. Awesome! Not!

Very Heavy Periods
We all know that a very heavy period is traumatic. And, it seems that there’s a lot to deal with during each life stage. Plus, can heavy periods cause anemia? Of course they can. There is a multitude of symptoms we encounter but if it is true that we can deal with these symptoms, once we know how, I’d sure like to know. I’d love it if you come with me on this journey.
