The 5 most important skin care steps
Does it seem like there are too many steps you have to take to look and stay beautiful. I’ll tell you the 5 most important skin care steps you can’t skip.
The 5 most important skin care steps
You get up in the morning to ‘put your face on’ as they used to say but did you ever stop to think about all the steps you have to do to look great. It may seem overwhelming, what will all the creams and potions all these skin care / make-up companies are telling you that you need to do. But, it doesn’t have to be that hard and you don’t have to spend a lot of money – if you know how to do it and what products to choose.

So, what are the 5 most important skin care steps?
Cleanse
The first step is to cleanse. You have to remove that make-up and all the dirt and debris from the day – all of it. Skin care experts suggest that you should do a double cleanse. Once with an oil-based cleanser – to remove all that make-up and once with a water-based cleanser to wash everything else away. I like to use my micellar water to remove my make-up. I even have a DIY micellar water recipe you can try.

Always be gentle when removing make-up. Use a cotton ball and make sure you remove all traces of make-up. Then, use a gentle cleanser to wash again. I use a glycerin-based soap because it’s the most gentle on my sensitive, acne-prone skin.

Exfoliate
After cleansing, it’s important to exfoliate. However, this doesn’t mean you should exfoliate every day because it depends on your skin type. Check out your skin type to understand how often you need to exfoliate. This guide will not only tell you how often you should exfoliate, but also which Nutt So Ruff scrub bar you should you for your particular skin.

Treat
Next, it’s time to treat your skin. That means anything that will help your skin in the way it needs it the most. This can include hydrating toners, serums that smooth fine lines, or sheet masks that you leave on. It should also include eye creams that can help with dark circles or puffiness (a very common issue), and crow’s feet because the skin around our eyes is very thin.

Moisturize
The next step is to moisturize. For those of you that have oily skin like me, you may think you don’t need to moisturize. Sometimes that may be the case, but not always. Like I said, I have oily skin and sometimes my skin really doesn’t need anything else. But, there are times – especially in the cold winter months and even in spring and fall where my skin is a bit drier.
For those times, I like to use a glycerin on my face to keep moisture in. I actually use this step along with the Treat step above. I’ll take vegetable glycerin and mix it with carrot seed oil or sea buckthorn oil. I splash this on my face right after washing it – just when it still has some dampness after washing. That way, I lock in that moisture. It’s a great trick and so inexpensive.

Sunscreen
Last is the sunscreen. You MUST use sunscreen, every day. Your skin takes a beating everyday – whether it’s sunny or not. There is UV coming through and you need to protect your skin. I like the mineral based sunscreens because they aren’t toxic like the chemical sunscreens.
And, don’t forget to reapply – every couple hours, especially if you’re sweating. If you’re sweating a lot or swimming, you’d be better off applying every hour.
So, there you have it! The 5 most important skin care steps. They will change with the seasons but it will help you to look and feel beautiful all year round.
