Best natural toner

Toners were very common when I was growing up.  They’ve fallen out of the normal skin care regimen, but they can come back.  Here are some of the Best natural toner ideas to try.

What is a toner?

Toners are something that you use on your face after washing.  They help to close pores because they are cooling.  The thought is that if you use something cooler than the warm water that you washed your face with, it will close the pores.  Splashing cool water on your face after washing has the same effect.

They are good to use in your skin care regimen, but it all depends on your skin type.

Good toner for oily skin

When I was growing up, the toners were very drying – or at least the ones I chose were very drying.  Since my skin was oily, this is what I gravitated towards because I thought I needed to remove all those oils.  It shouldn’t be this way because little did I know back than, that I was stripping my skin – which caused more breakouts.  You’ll want to look for a product that has salicylic acid in it.  These days, I go the natural route with this Cucumber toner:

Cucumber toner recipe

This is so easy because all you need is a cucumber, some lemon juice and a blender or a juicer.  First, remove the skin from the cuke, then either blend or juice the cucumber.  I like to juice the cuke because you get more of a ‘liquidy’ consistency.  You can blend but then you’ll need to sieve out the pulp.

Once you have the juice, add 2-3 drops of lemon juice.  Bottle it and keep in the fridge.  Then, when you’re ready to tone (after you’ve washed your face), you can grab a cotton ball and your cucumber toner and dab on your face.  So refreshing!  It’s also one of the best toners for combination skin.  For me, it’s one of the best natural toners for oily skin.

Another option is this minty skin toner.  Other mint recipes can be found here.

Toner for dry aging skin

Believe it or not, you may not need to use a toning product if you have dry skin.  But, you can try a hydrosol like rose water or lavender.  If you are worried about aging skin, you can try green tea and again, we’re doing this with what we have in the kitchen.  This one, though, is even easier because all you need to do is brew some green tea.  (This one will also work for acne prone skin.)  Another best natural toner – depending on your skin type.
