Exfoliating benefits

Exfoliating can seem like a chore but there are exfoliating benefits that can really do wonders for your skin.  Get a nice glow with proper exfoliating.

Exfoliating

Exfoliating is the act of removing dead skin cells by either manual or chemical ways.  My preference has always been manual exfoliation because I can control it.  While there are benefits to both, I will focus on manual exfoliation.

While it’s true that your skin naturally sloughs off on its own, it is necessary to help it along.  This is because – as we get older – our bodies aren’t as efficient at doing it – at least not completely, so it is good practice to manually exfoliate and I’ll tell you the exfoliating benefits.

Exfoliating benefits

Skin cells that build up can clog pores, causing either acne or dull looking skin.  This all depends on your skin type.  If you are acne prone, you’ll be even more acne prone if you allow those pores to get clogged.  If you tend to be on the dry side, those clogged pores make the skin look dull because the dead skin gets caught in those crevices, making wrinkles look more prominent.

So, if that’s the only reason to start exfoliating, I would do it because these are huge exfoliating benefits for you.

• better skin texture
• even skin tone
• helping skin care products work the way they should (because it allows them to get absorbed properly)
• helps improve circulation

Note:  while I am a huge proponent of exfoliating, in general, and of manually exfoliating, I do want to point out that there is a proper way to exfoliate.  This includes holding off exfoliating if you have any active breakouts.  You should know that when you first start to exfoliate, you may get a breakout and this is OK.  I mean, not OK at the time, but this is normal.  Wait until the breakout subsides and start your routine again.  I promise you that it will be worth it.

Also, never use any product that uses the nut shell.  This is too harsh for your skin.  Read the label of any product you are thinking about before you buy / use it.
