How to Find your Passion when you are Depressed
On Day 13 of our Self Confidence Challenge, I talked about 7 hobbies for Depression. When depression hits for whatever reason, it can be hard to get out of it. On Day 14 of our Challenge, I want to talk about how to find your passion when you are depressed, and it relates to one of the 7 hobbies we talked about yesterday.
I don t know myself anymore
Now is a great time to figure out how to feel okay and the way to do that is to start looking inward and to journal. Writing may not be your thing but as I suggested yesterday, it may be one way to really figure things out. You’ll start seeing patterns of thinking or you’ll notice a negative thought that makes you realize you need to change it. Journaling is a great way to just get your thoughts on paper especially if you’re trying to figure out how to not feel worthless anymore.
8 Self-talk Red Flags
- I feel awful / I feel terrible
- Maybe you say to yourself “I don t feel okay”
- I feel disconnected from everyone
- I feel like I don t matter
- Or I feel like my life is falling apart
- I feel like my life is going nowhere
- Finally, I feel like no one understands me
These could all be warning signs that something is wrong and if you start noticing them more and more, you need to do something. That is why journaling is a very easy way to start making a change.
Reasons to journal
- It’s relatively inexpensive. All you need is a piece of paper and a pen / pencil. I use a bullet journal. It gets your thoughts “out of your mind” and onto the page. It’s amazing what you can realize when you see it written down.
- You can organize your wishes. In WishCraft by Hardie Grant, you can learn how to manifest your wishes and you can do this all in your journal. Lastly, you can reflect on your journal. When you get to the end of a month, you can go back through the month to re-read what you’ve done, thought and wished. It will be a nice reminder of your wishes and it will keep it in your minds’ forefront.
- Start changing your life. I know this may seem unrealistic but when you start recording your daily life and reviewing it periodically, it can really help you to be more mindful. Here’s what I mean. If you have 5 things you’ve been meaning to do and you’ve only worked on 1 out of those 5, you realize that one item is probably the most important. And, if you look back and there was something you really wanted to do but never got around to it, you have two choices: A) get it off your list because it’s not that important or B) make the time.
- Find your passion! Yes, this can happen – by actually writing down your thoughts and wishes, you can start building a road map of where you want your life to go. If you’re feeling down, this is how to find your passion when you are depressed.
