Bloating a week before period
Bloating before period (and other PMS symptoms) is common affecting a majority of women, this is according to Womenshealth.gov . If bloating is that common, are we just cursed to suffer from this? The answer is no. Even though it is so widespread, there are some things you can do to help feel better and reduce period bloating. And, you may be surprised by the answer.

PMS Bloating Relief – period bloating remedies
When we’re not feeling our best, we tend to grab the ice cream, the potato chips, and the soda’s. It makes us feel better to enjoy foods that we really like. But, it’s actually doing us more harm than good.

We need to nourish our bodies so that they work properly. We forget how much our bodies need the tender loving care it deserves. And, to get some of that relief, we need to eat our vegetables! Not only do veggies help us overall, but they are also awesome for our reproductive system and for ensuring our hormones stay balanced.

Between leafy green vegetables and other vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, they provide the essential nutrients our bodies need to stay in tip top shape – and that includes our menstrual cycle. The fiber and nutrients these provide help to remove the waste from your blood while also keeping inflammation in check.

Magnesium and Potassium
Magnesium in vegetables is amazing at helping to reduce period bloating. In fact, it’s sometimes prescribed by doctors to supplement with magnesium. But, why supplement when you can just add a serving to your daily diet? Plus, magnesium is great for emotional issues like anxiety and depression and I know many women who could use some relief from those symptoms! Try some avocados or even some dark chocolate!

Potassium is another nutrient that is often overlooked. This electrolyte helps us with energy from what we consume and can help with bloating and pain from menstruation. I sometimes find it hard to get enough potassium in my diet and if this is a problem for you, here are some foods to try to add:
- Raisins
- Celery
- Cottage cheese (try a lower fat option as these will have higher potassium levels)
- Coconut water – click here if you want my recipe for homemade electrolyte water.
Other benefits
Aside from all the amazing things vegetables can do for our menstrual cycle / PMS symptoms, they also have fiber which we all know is so good for our digestive health. So, to help reduce period bloating, try adding some of these foods to your diet. Start slow so you don’t get gassy (especially if you aren’t used to eating a lot of veggies!). There you have it, period bloating remedies that won’t cost a lot! When you have the knowledge, you can make better choices!
