Liver detox foods

It’s hard to eat healthy, especially in the busy world we live in.  But, knowing that there are home remedies for liver cleansing can really save you time and lots of money.  The natural ways to detox liver are through cruciferous vegetables, such as:

  • Broccoli sprouts – do you like broccoli?  Well, even if it’s not your favorite vegetable, try broccoli sprouts.  You can find them in many grocery stores or you can easily grow your own.  Broccoli sprouts are amazing on salads and add a nice taste to a boring leaf lettuce salad.  I’ll bet you won’t mind the taste when you add it to a favorite salad.
  • Broccoli – good ole fashioned broccoli.  If you like broccoli, make sure you eat more – otherwise, try the sprouts!
  • Cauliflower – I never used to like cauliflower but then I tried it roasted.  And, then I tried it riced!  I’ll bet you’ll change your tune if you try them this way.  In fact, I now prefer cauliflower rice rather than regular white or brown rice.
  • Brussels sprouts – here’s another one you may think you don’t like – until you try them roasted!  I’ve even shredded them and then sautéed them and they are delish!
  • Cabbage – This is probably the least favorite of mine but I do try to get cabbage into my diet for a natural way to detox my liver.

Hint:  you can even put these vegetables into a smoothie.  That way, you can get your liver detox foods in while hiding some of the tastes you may not enjoy in with other fruits and veggies.

Why Cruciferous Vegetables

There is something in these vegetables (called Indole-3-carbinol or I3C) that helps with carcinogens and helping degrade estrogen, which helps against cancer and their cells.  It’s a great liver detox and fights bad metabolites and xenoestrogens (chemicals that act like estrogens that harm our bodies).  And, if you’re looking to do a liver detox, the best way is through foods – not supplements or “systems”.  Do it the natural way.

You may be high in estrogen, which is causing problems with your period – specifically, very heavy bleeding or even fibroids.  We need to rid our bodies of these xenoestrogens and that’s why liver detox foods are so beneficial.

A word about sprouts

Above I suggested broccoli sprouts, but there are also many other sprouts like alfalfa sprouts, radish sprouts and clover sprouts.  In addition, there are microgreens like beet microgreens (which I love).  Sprouts are seeds that, you guessed it, sprouted!  These tiny sprouts are full of nutrition and you can grown your own with a glass jar.  The nutrients really help with inflammation and can really help your liver when it comes to estrogen dominance.  In addition, they can help with PMS problems and bloating.  Give these a try if you don’t like the ‘adult form’ of these vegetables – i.e. broccoli sprouts vs. broccoli.
