Secret to happiness
Is there a secret to happiness? Yes and no – but not really. It seems so elusive, but it is achievable!
What is happiness?
For those of you who struggle to be happy, I get it. So, it can be a hard thing to figure out what exactly happiness is.

Happiness is the feeling of contentment you get when nothing is bothering you to the point that you can’t stop obsessing about it. There are always things to worry about – whether it’s:
- Our own kids
- Our parents
- The overdemanding job or boss
- Bills
- Our health
Life is hard and nothing works out the way we think it will. So, I’ll tell you how I got happy with my secret to happiness.

The secret
Since life is life and it isn’t controllable, the first thing is acceptance. When you realize that you can’t control the outcome of anything, all you can do is move in the direction you want things to go. Understand that it will work out in some way – just maybe not in the exact way we think. That’s the first thing that needs to happen but it is easier said than done. The most important thing, though, is to this:

Permission
You must give yourself permission to be happy. Without this, it will continue to be elusive and you won’t understand why. For me, I got to a point where I was fed up with trying to make things happen. I just did what I had to do and things just fell into place. I realized that, at some point, I gave myself the permission. This is what actually allowed me to be happy.

If you focus on your general well-being and doing good in the world, ride with it and enjoy the people in your life. The people who aren’t good for you tend to fall away when you do this. It’s OK for you to be happy. So, please give yourself permission. The weight you feel will be lifted and just like that, you feel happy. Uncertainty will always be there but you will know you can get through anything. Celebrate life and you’ll see how your mental health improves.
