Share your struggles
During Suicide Prevention Month, we want to give you a place to share your struggles, personal experiences, and frustrations with your skin and life. We often don’t feel good about ourselves for different reasons. Whether you’re dealing with a personal tragedy or a minor set back, you’re situation is important. I want you to feel free to share your struggles here. It’s not only Suicide Prevention Week (and Month) but also share your struggles day!
Do you suffer from acne?
How bad is it – is it mild or is it a major problem? And, how long has it been going on.
Are you a teen or an adult and how have you been able to deal with or manage your acne? What products do you use that have worked, if any?
Do you suffer from back acne (“bacne”)? Are you constantly trying to find clothes that will cover up your back, chest, neck, shoulders, or upper arms so that you don’t have to be self-conscious about the acne on your body?
How do YOU get rid of a pimple?
Is your skin oily, dry, sensitive, or normal?
Do you have psoriasis?
If your skin is dry, do you have wrinkles?
Are you embarrassed by your skin?
Do skin care products irritate you and cause redness?
How much money have you spend on skin care products in the past 3 months? In the past 6 months? The past year?
Are you frustrated because you have spend so much money on products that don’t work for you?
If you answered yes to any of the above…
How does this make you feel?
Most people generally feel embarrassed by their skin condition and it makes them want to hide from the world. We all have some sort of skin “issue” – few people have normal skin. But, we tend to think that we are the only one suffering from it. Also, we often don’t talk about those things that we are embarrassed about. Plus, we’re usually more self-critical of ourselves. If we look at another person, we may not see the acne they have all over their face or body but when it comes to our skin, we are debilitated by it.
If I could change the way that you see yourself, it would make me so happy. You don’t have to feel bad about yourself anymore. I know how awful that feels.
Good personal hygiene can help to develop positive self esteem. So, make sure you are taking care of yourself. This will help you to manage some issues. For other issues, you may need to see a doctor but ensuring that you are taking care of yourself will go a long way with your self-confidence.
So, share your struggles! We want to know! We want to build a community where people can talk about these frustrations, disappointments, and maybe even your successes!
All the information is here for you to learn. And, that brings us to Day 9 of the 30 day Confidence Challenge. What I want you to do today is to look in the mirror. I know this can be uncomfortable, especially if you don’t normally do this. But, please give it a try – even for a few minutes. So, look in the mirror and really look at yourself. Notice how you feel when you see yourself. Are you disgusted, embarrassed or ashamed? Feel it, it’s OK.
Now try to think of other people that have the same issue that you do and try to figure out if they feel the same? A lot of times they do, but not always. What can you learn from this? Can you start looking at yourself a little differently? Did you know there are a lot of famous people who have skin issues? Yet, they are still successful.
