Happy New Year 2022

Happy New Year 2022 everyone!  It’s finally here – the New Year!  This is a time to celebrate new beginnings and be hopeful for the year to come!

Saying goodbye to 2021

2021 was a difficult year for a lot of people.  With the pandemic raging, we just weren’t able to do the things we normally liked doing.  In the summer, it looked like things could go back to normal.  If you were vaccinated, many stores and restaurants weren’t requiring masking.  We all felt a little bit better that things would get back to normal.  Others felt that their rights and freedoms were being taken away from them.  Either way, it was a difficult year.  Even families were torn apart by all of this.

Celebrate new beginnings

But, it’s time to move on and celebrate new beginnings.  There’s no looking back.  You can’t change the past or dwell on it.  Many people do have some grieving to do because they lost a family member or friend.  Some even have to grieve because they lost the person they thought they knew (i.e. if you realized you each had very different views).  We need to pick up and carry on.

How to move on…

If you want to have a happy new year in 2022, it’s important to move on.  In order to do that, you need to:

  • Practice self-compassion – don’t beat yourself up.  If you’ve made a mistake, own up to it.  If you’ve had a disagreement with a friend, apologize if / when you’re ready.
  • Speak your truth and don’t feel bad about it!
  • Trust yourself.
  • Learn from your mistakes.
  • Acknowledge what happened.
  • Grieve and don’t try to cut corners – bottom line, don’t rush it.

It can be really hard to move on, but if you want to have a good life, it’s necessary.

Set goals

In order to be hopeful for the year to come, it’s a good idea to set goals.  Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to bake bread or play the piano.  Set a goal for yourself and start looking for classes.  I even started to learn how to play an instrument.  Here are some other hobbies I did during 2021 that helped me.

So, I wish you all a Happy New Year 2022!  You are totally worth it and deserve a happy, healthy, and prosperous life!
