Highly sensitive people
Do you feel everything and wear your heart on your sleeve? Highly sensitive people tend to think there is something wrong with them but I’ll show you how to turn that around!
Sensitivity and highly sensitive people
What is sensitivity? Sensitivity is a term used to describe people that are highly emotive – they feel everything with their emotions. They’re highly sensitive people. You care about how you come across and if you feel that you hurt someone, it bothers you. This also means that you might ruminate over a conversation or an argument that happened earlier in the day.

The problem
Highly sensitive people run into problems with anxiety and depression because they worry and then constantly think about what had happened earlier in the day. It could also be that they worry about things that happened much farther in the past. Doing this gets us stuck in a constant thought loop which creates anxiety. It’s sometimes hard to manage our emotions.

The solution
There is a solution though – thankfully! As a highly sensitive person myself, I have lived through the rumination and anxiety that it causes. In this msn article about Sensitive People, they explain how to use it as your Superpower! That’s right – turn what you think is a negative into a positive. And, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing, especially these past few months.
When I started to finally realize that all the worrying wasn’t doing any good and wanted to do something about it, I did. I knew deep down that I was a good and caring person. I also knew that I wouldn’t intentionally hurt anyone and realized that the person or conversation I was ruminating about probably didn’t even think twice about the conversation. If they weren’t, why should I?

There were a few tricks I used that finally got me to realize there was nothing wrong with me.
- I used the quick mindfulness trick.
- Meditation – don’t force it, just do a few minutes when you have time.
- Talking to people – when I confided in all my family and friends (those I trusted) and they consistently told me there was nothing wrong with me, I started to finally listen.
Highly sensitive people are all around us and you may be one of them. But, you can start to feel better by realizing you are amazing!
