Thinking about getting Botox

Are you thinking about getting Botox?  If you’re in your 30s or 40s & you’re starting to see fine lines & wrinkles, Botox might be on your mind.

Anti-aging

We’re all getting older but when we hit our 30’s, we definitely start thinking about how to avoid looking old – at least a lot more than when we were younger.   We start to see fine lines and wrinkles in our 30s and 40s and that’s when we realize that we should have been doing much more to prevent them.

Don’t beat yourself up – it happens to many of us – me included!  Even so, this leaves us wondering what we need to do to reverse the signs of aging and if it will cost us a fortune to do.  So, if you’re thinking about getting Botox, keep reading to see how to avoid this procedure.

What is Botox

Botox is a drug and it is made from a toxin that is generally dangerous.  You may have heard of botulism, which is a type of food poisoning and it can be life-threatening.  So, what is all the hype about Botox as it relates to skin care and anti-aging?

The drug is injected into the skin to help plump up the skin to help make it appear younger.  The theory is that it will help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, helping maintain a more youthful appearance.  Sounds good, right?  The problem I have with it is that it will get expensive.  The Mayo Clinic suggests that you need to get continual injections in order to maintain the effects.

When we’re dealing with anti-aging, sometimes we feel like we will pay anything in order to look young.  But, it doesn’t have to be this way!  In fact, Jamie Lee Curtis – who has admitted to having cosmetic procedures done, gives aging advice.  To me, I do think we need to age gracefully and really think about what matters in our lives.  Being a good person is something we should always strive for.

I also believe that we can find alternative ways to staying young or looking younger and they are much cheaper than any kind of plastic surgery.

Thinking about Getting Botox

Skin care has always been on my mind.  Since I was a teen, I was trying to figure out what my skin needed – mainly because of acne breakouts.  As I got older, my skin care needs changed.  When I hit my 30’s, I started to worry about fine lines and wrinkles but the need to control acne didn’t change.  I was fearful to add moisturizers because of the acne concerns.  Luckily, I found some alternatives and it didn’t include Botox so if you’re thinking about getting Botox, here are some alternatives!

Ways to Fight Aging on the Cheap

Aside from the obvious ways to fight aging like:

  • Eating a well-balanced diet that includes lots of veggies
  • Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated
  • Avoiding alcohol
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Managing our stress levels by participating in hobbies that we enjoy or meditating

There are other ways to help fight aging.  If you are thinking about getting Botox and feel like your skin needs a boost because you are trying to fight those fine lines and wrinkles, try finding products that contain humectants.  Humectants draw moisture to your skin, allowing your skin to stay hydrated.  A well-known humectant ingredient is hyaluronic acid and you can find them in face serums.   They’re great especially if you have uneven skin tone.

I like this ingredient but they can be pricey so another good (and more affordable) ingredient is glycerin.  Find something that has glycerin as one of the first 3 ingredients like:  Instant Facelift Face Serum.   You’ll be spending a lot less money on your skin care than if you were to continually get treatments to temporarily remove those wrinkles!

Disclaimer:  I am not picking on the company that makes Botox or any other company that produces an injectable drug.  In fact, Botox is a brand name and there are other brands that use the toxin to treat fine lines and wrinkles, among other things.  It is up to you to decide if you want to do this.  I am merely pointing out that there are cheaper alternatives out there to look younger.
