Toxic effects of PFAs

Are you a woman over 40 dealing w/ hormone issues?  Toxic effects of PFAs can be to blame.  Perimenopause aside, PFA’s could be an issue.

Perimenopause

It’s inevitable, we get older.  When we hit our 40’s we most likely are in perimenopause – the stage of life right before full blown menopause.  It’s normal and it happens to every woman.  There are many symptoms of perimenopause and if you’re in this stage of your life, you most likely are dealing with more than one symptom.

Symptoms of perimenopause

Here are some of the symptoms of perimenopause – how many do you have?

  • Irregular periods – some women have shorter, lighter periods and some have longer, heavier periods.  It depends on which stage of perimenopause you are in.  Either way, periods are erratic.
  • Changes in mood
  • Memory problems
  • Depression / anxiety
  • Hot flashes
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Infertility
  • Weight gain
  • Headaches

And, this doesn’t even scratch the surface!  It’s a lot to deal with and it isn’t fun.  Here’s where the toxic effects of PFAs come in.

Toxic effects of PFAs

I’m a big proponent of getting rid of toxins in our bodies.  The way we live and what we eat and put on our skin can have an adverse effect on us.  The chemicals we consume can make our bodies toxic.   PFA’s could be another problem to add to the list of toxins.

PFA dangerous chemicals

PFA’s are chemical compounds found in many things.  One of the biggest areas of concern is food packaging – those that come from fast food restaurants and other take out establishments.  They are known as “forever chemicals” according to Consumer Reports and they do stick around forever.  When we eat foods that touch these chemicals (i.e. the packaging), they become endocrine disruptors or more commonly, hormone disruptors.

Hormone disruptors act like our natural hormones and that confuses are bodies.  This can lead to headaches, very heavy periods, fibroids, depression / anxiety, changes in mood, etc.  Do any of these symptoms look familiar?   Hormone disruptors like PFA’s make these symptoms worse.  Do we really need to add to the effects of perimenopause by consuming PFA’s?  Knowledge is power.  Now that you know, strive to eliminate these from your life.

Eliminate PFA’s

The Environmental Working Group just put out some more findings from their research on PFA’s.  They even have an interactive map where you can search by address.  Check it out because it’s really cool but alarming!  Do what you can to eliminate PFA’s from your life so that you can stay healthy.  All those problems like acne, heavy bleeding, and migraines could be from these toxins.  Skin care and other ‘ailments’ wouldn’t be so expensive if we get to the source of the problem.
