Cinco de Mayo 2022

Yeah, bebe or yeah, baby!  It’s Cinco de Mayo 2022 or the 5th of May!  It’s time to celebrate and enjoy life!

What is Cinco de Mayo 2022

Many of us don’t even know what the 5th of May is supposed to represent.  We like to celebrate because it means we can eat tacos and drink delicious margaritas!  I don’t blame you – I love both of those!  But, what is Cinco de Mayo and why is it celebrated?

This day celebrates the Battle of Puebla that happened on May 5, 1862.  It was a battle between the French and the Mexicans and the Mexicans won.  So, yay for Mexico and yay that we can enjoy the day by eating delicious Mexican food and drinks.

Tacos

How do you like your tacos?  Do you go out to eat to get them or do you make your own?  Making tacos is so easy.  All you need are:

  • Taco shells (hard or soft) – I like either!
  • Shredded cheese
  • A meat (like ground beef or shredded chicken) or if you’re vegetarian, lots of vegetables and beans (I love onions and black or pinto beans).
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sour cream, guacamole, salsa, or any topping you prefer

It’s so easy to make tacos all you have to do is warm the tortillas, cook the meat / warm the beans and then start assembling and enjoying your creation.  Crunch away and wash it down with a lovely Mexican margarita!

Margaritas

I do love me some margaritas.  I usually make my own because they are so easy and so much better than store bought.  Give it a try if you want to experience deliciousness.  You’ll need:

  • Lemon, peeled (and any seeds removed)
  • Lime, peeled
  • Orange, peeled (or even orange juice)
  • Simple syrup (make your own by adding equal amounts of water and sugar, bring to boil, boil for a few minutes, then cool)
  • Ice / Water
  • Tequila
  • Other flavors, optional
  • Salt, optional

To make your cocktails, add 2-3 ounces tequila to your blender with about a half cup of simple syrup, add the fruit.  Start blending.  Next you’ll add the ice.  Depending on how frozen you like your drink, add more or less ice and compensate with water if you like yours more on the liquidy side.  If you want to add a flavor, feel free – take any fruit like mango, blueberry, or watermelon – and blend right in.  Enjoy but don’t overindulge so you don’t end up with alcohol skin damage.  Moderation is the key when celebrating!
