Figuring out skin care for your skin
Struggling figuring out skin care for your skin? You’ve come to the right place. I know it’s frustrating – I’ve been there. Here you will find helpful tips.
Skin Care Industry
The skin care industry is a HUGE industry and there are so many products available out there that it is hard to choose which to use. You think you know your skin type and then you read the labels on products and they sound amazing. You then buy the bottle of serum that you think is for you only to find that your skin breaks out or gets irritated and turns red. (If you need more information on sensitive skin, click here.) It can be very frustrating and expensive.
What’s hard to find is the information about skin care that can help you look and feel your best. Without it, it’s hard to know what to buy. It’s also hard to figure out all the ingredients that companies use in their products. In fact, you can check out my skin care ingredient checker. Skin Types
Do you know what skin type you have? You probably have a pretty good idea but maybe you’re not quite sure. Or, maybe you have a certain type of skin in the winter and another type in the summer. For example, maybe your skin is really dry in the winter and oily in the summer. This means that you don’t want to use the same products on your whole body.
In my case, my legs and hands get dry in the winter but my face is always oily. The oily skin on my face is always an annoyance but so, too, is the dry skin on my legs and hands. While I don’t often break out like I used to when I was a teenager, when I hit my 40’s, I’d still get the occasional adult acne. Then, there’s the dry skin I deal with in the winter. My legs get really dry and my hands get super dry – dry where they are sensitive.
So, figuring out skin care for your skin can be tough but it no longer has to be. To find out your skin type, you can check out ‘Your skin‘.

Figuring out skin care for your skin
So, now that you know what skin type you have, you can go on figuring out skin care for your skin. The top 2 questions I get asked questions most are:
- How often should I wash my face?
- How often should I exfoliate?
Of course, there are other frequently asked questions.
Let’s dive into the first question…’How often should I wash my face?’
How often should I wash my face
He’s what I recommend. For most skin types, it is generally recommended to wash your face once in the morning and once in the evening. However, there are times when it may not be necessary.

Morning washing
If your skin doesn’t produce a ton of oil, you can get away with just rinsing your face with some water in the morning. But, if you sweat at night or you tend to be really oily, cleaning your face in the morning with a gentle cleanser is a good idea.
Evening washing
As far as washing your face in the evening, I always recommend it. Not only do you make-up, oil, dirt, but you even toxins from the environment. So, before going to bed for the night, wash your face – again, with a gentle cleanser.
Should I wash my face during the day?
One last thing before we move on to how often to exfoliate. Some people ask me if they should was their face during the day. The only time I would recommend this is if you’ve been sweating a lot or you got really dirty. Let’s say you play sports 2 times a week. After you are done, you might be all sweaty. In this case, I would rinse off with water so that you remove the sweat that can block your pores. Yep, just use water – no cleansers.

The reason for this is that you strip away too many of the natural oils in your skin if you cleanse too often. So, twice a day is the most I would wash my face.
Next, how often to exfoliate?
How often should I exfoliate my skin?
This one is rather easy for me to answer. You should exfoliate once or twice a week. This is the general rule. As far as the rest of your body, about 3 times a week. But, it all depends on your skin type. Here is my recommendation:
- Dry or sensitive skin – only once per week – yes only once. You’ll be amazed and you’ll thank me!
- Oily or combination skin – 3-5 times per week. No more and no less (than 3).
- Normal skin – you can exfoliate every day.
It really is that simple. Follow these simple steps and figuring out skin care for your skin will be easy – no matter the season!
