The role of processed foods in our health
Food can either help you stay healthy or it can contribute to illness. Sure, there are a lot of factors when it comes to health but if you don’t feed your body with essential nutrients, it can be problematic. Equally, if you feed your body garbage like foods high in salt and fat, it will eventually cause problems.
Many of the high fat / high sodium foods come from a box or the freezer section of your grocery store. It also includes fast foods like burgers, fries, donuts, and even your croissant sandwich from your coffee shop. Other foods that cause inflammation just happen to be at the deli counter. Foods like deli meats and deli cheeses can also cause inflammation.
Back when I was in elementary, we didn’t have a cafeteria so I always had to bring a lunch. The easiest thing to bring was a deli sandwich. At that age, I’d eat bologna and salami. When I went to high school, we did have a cafeteria but I was so used to bringing my lunch that I continued to do so. Truly, my choices at the high school cafeteria wouldn’t have been much better: pizza, burgers, or fries. But, really – is deli meat bad for skin?
Is Deli meat bad for skin?
Seriously, though, is deli meat bad for skin? The short answer is yes. Deli meat, which contains all kinds of ‘stuff’ like sodium, nitrates, nitrites and high fat does cause inflammation in the body. There is even sugar in a lot of deli meat (brown sugar ham). And, there is a sugar and acne connection.
You can heal inflammation in your body if you eat the right foods. Sugary and fatty foods are delicious but they are addicting. Eat the right foods high in vitamins and minerals and you’ll see how your skin responds. Deli meat is not one of those foods. Keep acne at bay and look beautiful by eating well and taking care of your skin in the process.
