Natural relief for menstrual cramps

Menstrual cramps can be really painful, I know.  There is natural relief for menstrual cramps that can bring relief.  Watch it work.

How menstrual cramps feel

I can only speak from my experience but for me, menstrual cramps are awful.  I start getting cramps up to 5 days before my period is about to start.  For those few days, I feel like my innards are being twisted and rung so hard.

It makes it hard to think about anything else.  In addition, it makes it very hard to sleep and brings on a lot of anxiety.  It started me thinking, ‘is there any natural relief for menstrual cramps’?

What’s good for menstrual cramps

My normal go-to menstrual cramp pain reliever is just that, a pain reliever.  But, I don’t like taking drugs or NSAIDS, as they are called.  Sometimes, though, it is just too painful to go without.  So that is the path I was taking.

Natural relief for menstrual cramps

When my cramps were so bad that I was taking some form of NSAID for several days, I decided I needed to make some changes.  Believe it or not, there are natural relief for menstrual cramps but they are so simple that you don’t think they will work.  What are these natural remedies?  The short answer is Food – well, the type of food you are eating.

If you are eating processed foods, such as foods high in salt or sugar, you will most likely experience painful periods.  In fact, there was a food study that shows this.  In this CNN article, it explains why inflammatory foods are causing the pain and why a more healthful diet can relieve symptoms.  Our bodies are releasing something that acts like our own natural hormones so we’re getting tricked and it’s causing the pain.  These are the effects of endocrine disruptors (AKA hormone disruptors).

I’ve noticed that when I eat a more healthful diet, my cramps aren’t as bad.  I didn’t want to believe it but after a while, I couldn’t deny it anymore.  Plus, my skin looked and felt better too!  This is why I continue to speak about diet when it comes to skin care.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look and feel good – but the marketing companies want you to think you need the next best skin care product when all you really need is some good information.

Foods to try

Here are some foods you can try for natural relief for menstrual cramps:

  • High fiber foods like vegetables, nuts, and seeds.  Try:  broccoli, cauliflower and leafy greens.  For nuts and seeds, I like Brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds.
  • Foods high in essential fatty acids like cold water fish and flaxseed oil.
  • Vitamins like Vitamin B6
