Struggling with Hormonal Acne
Are you struggling with hormonal acne or are you unsure what type of acne you have? Here is how to know if you have hormonal acne.
How do you I know if my pimples are hormonal?
So, how do you know if your pimples are hormonal? Sometimes all it takes is to take stock of your current situation. Ask yourself some questions:
- Is it my time of the month? Are you having your period right now or is it about to start?
- Am I stressed? Is there something that is bothering you? Do you have an upcoming event that is causing angst or are you worried about a family member? Are you sick or is someone in your family sick and you’re worried about it?
- Am I perimenopausal? If you are in your forties (sometimes even in your thirties), you could be in perimenopause which can cause your hormones to go crazy.

These all point to hormones and if you have acne, they are likely due to the hormonal fluctuations that are going on inside of you.
Does hormonal acne go away on its own?
This depends. If you’re struggling with hormonal acne, it’s first important to recognize that your acne is hormonal. If you take active steps to manage your stress and balance your hormones (talk to your doctor, if needed), this can go a long way in helping those breakouts but if you continue to be stressed, nothing will change. No amount of washing your face and putting acne creams will make much difference.

If your imbalance is due to perimenopause, your adult acne can get better if you eat a healthful diet. You need to stay away from inflammatory foods. If you’re eating fried chicken wings, frozen / packaged foods (i.e. processed foods), or fast food, this won’t help. You need to eat foods like vegetables, fiber, or anything anti-inflammatory. Eat well and drink lots of water. This can really help you.
