Repairing Leaky Gut

With all the issues with IBS, PMS and so many other issues women face, repairing leaky gut should be a top priority.  It could really make a BIG difference in how you feel.

Is Leaky Gut Real?

We’ve recently established that leaky gut is a thing.  When you have the symptoms of IBS like bloating and gas or you’re constantly going to the bathroom and always feeling nervous / stressed, you may have leaky gut.

And, it’s nothing to scoff at.  Many people have these symptoms that either get disregarded or even avoided with the thinking that it can’t be the stress that we’re constantly under.  Let me ask you this:

  • How do you feel when you go to work?
    • Is it something you enjoy?
    • Do you feel accepted and valued there?
    • Do you enjoy what you do?
    • Have you ever cried on your way to work or leaving work?
  • Is there a relationship you are in that is causing you trouble?
    • Is it a romantic relationship?
    • Perhaps it is a friendship that has gone sour?
    • Are you fighting with a sibling or parent?

In any of these situations, you have stress and high stress or chronic stress can hurt us more than we realize.  If you don’t make changes, it can have long lasting effects.  Repairing leaky gut is so important.

Leaky Gut and IBS

In line with that, we eat a bad diet and that includes eating too much sugar.  Irritable bowel syndrome (or IBS) is now a problem and we haven’t even thought about changing our diets to help our bodies or our hormones.  We start getting headaches and bellyaches and don’t realize we may be doing this to ourselves.  With the added stress and bad diet, we now have a whole bunch of other symptoms and don’t know where to turn because who’s going to confide in someone that we are always “gassy”?  Embarrassing!

Repairing Leaky Gut – Probiotics for Leaky Gut

Since antibiotics play a role in destroying the good bacteria in our digestive tracts, consuming probiotics would go a long way to helping heal our guts.  One of the best things I have found when it comes to probiotics is kombucha.  If you’ve never had kombucha before, you’re in for a treat.  The first time I had it, I was hooked.  I not only enjoyed the flavor but I liked how my belly felt afterwards.

I loved it so much I decided to try my hand at making my own home brew – mostly because of how expensive this “habit” can be and because if I’m drinking so much of it, why not do it at home – especially since I make a whole lot of other things from scratch.  Here is my recipe for kombucha if you’d like to try it for yourself.

But, if you’re not one to make it yourself, buying a bottle or so a week could be one of many different ways (i.e. yogurt) to add probiotics to your diet.

Note:  some people may not want to consume a whole bottle of kombucha in one sitting or even one day.  It depends on where you are in your health.  You may want to start off with 2 oz. per day and work your way up.

Repairing leaky gut doesn’t have to be hard.  It takes paying attention to what you are eating and then adding some healthy items to your diet.  We know fresh vegetables are good for you but including some probiotic rich foods can help repair your leaky gut.  If you commit to watching what you eat on a regular basis and making small, incremental changes, you may just start seeing improvements in your mood, mental health, stress levels, and overall wellbeing – including your tummy.
