Suicide prevention during September
Suicide prevention during September – September is Suicide Prevention month and I think, as a society, we need to talk about it. It’s a topic that is considered “taboo” but it’s a real problem that should be faced.
Suicide Prevention during September
Mental health is very important but generally, people are too afraid to talk about it for fear they will be judged for not being strong enough. We lose too many people to suicide every year. So, during Suicide Prevention Month, I want to discuss some tips, what can be done to help someone in need as well as recognizing the signs because it can be hard to spot.

What is Suicide?
Suicide is the act of taking one’s own life. When someone is in despair for any reason and their thoughts turn negative, they may consider hurting themselves to alleviate the pain they are feeling. Learning to recognize the signs can help save someone’s life.

Loneliness
First and foremost, you’re not alone! Sometimes we may have many people around us yet we still feel lonely. If you don’t have someone to talk to or perhaps you live alone, this can really bring on loneliness and depression. If you start to have suicidal thoughts, please know that there are resources available – you don’t have to go at this alone. Do you have feelings of “not wanting to go on” or “not wanting to live”, then please reach out to someone you trust. You can also call 911. Below are some resources you can use.
Suicide Prevention Resources
- Call 911
- Suicide Hotline – 1-800-273-8255 (TALK)
