The problem with pesticides

Pesticides – we’ve all used (and consumed) them but it’s the biggest reason that our food is so toxic.  The problem with pesticides is that they are associated with various health problems.

Health issues – the problem with pesticides

Multiple health issues have been linked to pesticide use (and thus consumption).  Notably these are:

  • Infertility
  • Developmental problems
  • Neurological disorders
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Birth defects
  • Endocrine disruptor

Everything from Plastic to Food to Water

With plastic being a major contributor, this means that the products that we purchase can be contaminated just by the wrapping it is in.  BPA (Bisphenol-A) – which is very common and has been used in water bottles and even cans are a major contributor.  (You may have noticed recently that some canned goods say ‘not lined with BPA’ on the label.  It’s obvious that the manufacturers understand how concerning this is to the public and thus, their bottom line!  BPA can cause estrogen dominance in adults (male and female) and birth issues in our kids.  You should know that even if a label says ‘BPA free’, you should still be careful.

Even our drinking water isn’t immune from these toxins.  Things we throw away (including waste from our bodies) gets into our water supply.  Medications including hormonal ones can be ingested just by drinking the water.  We all know chlorine and fluoride are being added to our water.  This can cause problems to our nervous systems and organs.  I’m not saying to stop drinking water but it would be a really good idea to use a whole house filter.

What can you do?

I don’t mean to cause alarm but I do want to inform.  When I go to the grocery store anymore, I do bring my re-useable produce bags.  I made these recently and I love them so much.  Not only are they super cute but I’m saving myself, my family and the environment.

Other steps I’ve taken:

  • Re-usable grocery bags (eventually I’ll be making my own)
  • Filtering the water for my whole house, including de-chlorinating my water
  • Significantly reducing processed foods and any product using plastic in packaging.

This allows me to help the environment at the same time.  An added benefit is that my hormones don’t go haywire and I no longer have to worry about heavy periods and all the associated problems that comes with!
