Why is exfoliating skin important
Why is exfoliating skin important? It can do so much to help with some skin issues like acne – including adult acne – or wrinkles for maturing skin.
Acne prone skin
If you’re like thousands of people who suffer from acne – whether you’re a teenager or well into adulthood – you know you need to do something in order to manage those breakouts. People develop acne for a number of different reasons but understanding your skin and why it is breaking out can help you to manage it. Exfoliating your face is a great option. Why is exfoliating good for face? Exfoliating is one of those tools that can help you manage those breakouts.
Maturing skin
We all age, there’s nothing we can do about it. Aside from getting expensive Botox treatments and eventually looking like a plastic doll, maturing gracefully is what we can do. But that doesn’t mean we just sit back and allow gravity to take hold. We can help our skin by taking care of it and giving it what it needs in order to look as young as possible.
Why is exfoliating skin important?
So, now comes the question ‘why is exfoliating skin important’? The main goal of exfoliating skin is to remove dead skin cells. With that cell turnover, it keeps the dead cells out of pores which otherwise would get clogged with the dead cells and sebum. When dead skin cells, oil, and dirt build up and don’t get removed, our pores get clogged and this is what can cause pimples. Stop it in its tracks and you should get less breakouts.
It is important to know how often you should exfoliate and this is based a lot on your skin type. If you exfoliate too much, you run the risk of damaging your skin or even causing more breakouts or other problems like irritation and redness.
Why does exfoliating cause breakouts
Have you ever noticed that when you exfoliate, you end up breakout out more? There are 2 reasons for this.
- You may have over-exfoliated. The number of times you should exfoliate per week depends on your skin type. If you overdo it, it can cause more breakouts. That’s why you should always follow our guidelines.
- Cell turnover. I won’t lie – once you start exfoliating, you can get another breakout. While that’s not great news, there is a reason for this and it’s called cell turnover. Exfoliating is doing what it’s supposed to do – remove dead skin cells which increases cell turnover. That is a good thing. If you are patient, you’ll get through it and be happy you did. Plus, that cell turnover can help with hyperpigmentation that is caused by acne.
So, one reason is bad (over-exfoliating) and the other is a necessary evil. Exfoliate the right way and you’ll soon uncover your beautiful skin.
