Can soy cause menstrual problems
Healthy food can be confusing. Soy is a food that many think of as healthy but can soy cause menstrual problems? And, should you consume it?
Soy as a natural food
When we think of soy, we think soybeans and of course, we think it’s a natural food. It comes from the ground so it must be good for you, right? Not necessarily. There has been a lot of controversy around soy, soybeans, and products made from soy. Soy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, not all soy is good for you.
Soy is special and that’s why I wanted to answer the question: Can soy cause menstrual problems?
Can Soy cause Menstrual problems?
Here’s the thing…soy contains phytoestrogen. Phytoestrogens mimic the estrogen in our bodies so when we consume soy, we are consuming phytoestrogens. The more phytoestrogens running through your body, the more estrogen your body thinks you have. More estrogen could lead to menstrual problems, including heavy periods. Plus, it may lead to leaky gut.
So, you be the judge. If you have heavy periods or leaky gut, you may want to think twice about consuming any soy. Also, knowing that soy is hidden in a lot of the foods we eat, we end up eating more than we really think we are. For me, I stay away from it as much as I can.
