Dehydrated Face Skin Care

Feeling parched?  When our mouths feel dry, most likely your skin does too, and it will start to show in your face.  Here are some dehydrated face skin care suggestions…

Aqua / Water for Dehydration

Our bodies are composed of many things, including water.  That’s why it is so important to make sure we get enough of it.  Water keeps us hydrated and if our bodies are hydrated, that means our skin is too.  When we don’t get enough water, our skin starts to feel dry and irritated.

In the winter, when the air both inside and out is dry, our hands start to crack and sometimes bleed.  Couple this with a bad skin care routine that doesn’t include moisturizers or that does include harsh soaps, and you have a recipe for dehydration.  If you drink too much alcohol, your body could also become dry – again, you notice it when your mouth feels like cotton.  If you have cracked lips, wrinkles or bleeding hands, you’re dehydrated.  Bottom line – we need water!

Dehydration symptoms

What happens when we get dehydrated?  On top of the dry skin that we feel, you might also experience headaches, dry mouth, tiredness and a decrease in urination.  All these signs point to a lack of water.  That’s why it’s so important to stay hydrated – not only for our bodies to function properly but for our skin to look great.

Here are other signs of dehydration, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Oily skin

Did you know that when we dry out our skin, our skin can start producing more oil?  That’s right!  Have you ever noticed that when you scrub your face with harsh cleansers to get that very ‘clean’ feeling, that your skin feels overly dry?  That’s because you’ve stripped away all the oil and when that happens, our bodies react by producing even more oil.  It starts a vicious cycle of more washing because you think that you need to remove the oil.  The best thing to do in this case may seem counterintuitive but you need to hold back on all the washing.  Further, it’s best to use a gentle cleanser – one that isn’t harsh.

Dehydrated face skin care

So, what is the best dehydrated face skin care?  It’s drinking enough water.  It really is that simple!  The more water you drink, the better your skin will look and feel.  That’s why I always say that skin care doesn’t have to be expensive.  You’ll even notice less wrinkles.  With the right amount of water and nutrition, you’re halfway there!  When you add that to a gentle skincare regimen, you’ve about got it in the bag!

After that, I’ll always recommend an exfoliation routine but always remember that it depends on your skin type (and the time of year) how often you need to exfoliate.  Using a natural face scrub like our Nutt So Ruff Face Scrub Bar is ideal.
