The 3 Best Skin Care Ingredients
Always wondering what ingredients are best to use on acne prone skin? Here are the 3 best skin care ingredients that won’t harm and can help.
Skin Care Ingredients
There are so many products out there and it can be confusing. Every one of them seem to look fine, great even. That’s because the marketing departments are so good at their jobs. The problem lies in the fact that the consumers’ best interest isn’t on their mind. What is? The skin care company bottom line. Thieves! Further, the deceiving product labels do not help any of us make informed decisions.
That is one reason why Nutt So Ruff likes to provide you with a skin care ingredients checker. That way, you have a one stop list of items to check against. But, what are the best skin care ingredients? Below is a list – according to me.

The 3 best skin care ingredients
Many skin care products have some great ingredients but depending on your skin type, it may not work for you. So, while there are some deceiving products out there – they aren’t all bad or specifically trying to deceive you. However, they do count on the fact that you won’t do your research. But, we all know you’re smarter than that! You’re here today to find out the 3 best skin care ingredients for acne prone or oily skin. These are even great for combination skin. They are:

- Hyaluronic Acid
- Honey
- Benzoyl Peroxide
Let’s go into each one of these, including some alternatives.
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic Acid is a great ingredient, especially for mature skin. If you’re in your 30’s or 40’s, you need something to keep moisture in. Hyaluronic Acid is great because it’s a humectant – which means it draws moisture to your skin, keeping it nice and moist. It helps to moisturize your skin. A very inexpensive alternative that works just as great is vegetable glycerin. Use this morning and night after you wash your face and you’ll notice that it won’t aggravate your acne prone skin and won’t cause it to be more oily that it already may be.
Honey
My next fave is honey. Honey is anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant. I can help with healing wounds and it’s great for the ‘over forty’ among us. And, if your in your 30’s, start using it now!

The nice thing about honey is that it is relatively inexpensive. Note here though: buy raw local honey. Since raw honey isn’t pasteurized, it retains all of these great benefits. Raw honey is more expensive than your average store-bought honey but compared to using other expensive skin care products, it’s relatively inexpensive. I don’t have an alternative to honey for that reason. Try it – you’ll see.
Benzoyl Peroxide
This may surprise you but I do like benzoyl peroxide. You do have to watch the concentration though. Some concentrations can be too drying. Look for a low concentration (2-5%) and use that whenever you have a breakout. The 10% concentrations may be too drying but it is an option if you have a really persistent breakout that you need to deal with.
Aside from the potential to be too drying, benzoyl peroxide can bleach fabric so you do have to be careful with where you put it (i.e. if you are putting on your back for body acne) or if you wear it to bed because it can bleach sheets. For this reason, I give you an alternative to benzoyl peroxide.

The alternative is salicylic Acid. Salicylic acid is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. It also help treat acne. It’s not my preference because you have to use it more regularly. I don’t have as good of results but you may.
