Too embarrassed to wear bathing suit
Are you too embarrassed to wear bathing suits because of acne or scarring from when you were younger? Or, maybe you have acne in your 40s.
Acne is embarrassing
No matter how old you are, if you have acne it’s embarrassing. When we were teenagers, it’s considered normal to have acne. We don’t like it but it’s a normal part of life and we accept it to some degree. For some of us, that acne caused much embarrassment. To add insult to injury, you may have also have acne on your body, sometimes called ‘bacne’. That was even more embarrassing. Then, if you also had scarring from acne, that made the embarrassment even worse. That scarring may still be seen today.
Now that you are in your 40’s and your hormones are changing once again, acne may be rearing its ugly head once again. Hormonal acne finds it’s way onto our chins but we can also get acne anywhere, including our body making you too embarrassed to wear bathing suits.
Too embarrassed to wear bathing suit
If this happens to be you, you may shy away from wearing a swimsuit. It feels uncomfortable because you feel like everyone is looking at your acne or your acne scars.
And, no matter what anyone tells you, you still feel embarrassed. By our 40’s, though, we generally don’t care what people think so that is a good thing; however, we may still be a little self-conscious. That’s understandable. If you’re in this camp, I get it.
Acne in our 40s
Because you are likely in perimenopause once you hit your 40’s, you may either be experiencing dry skin, acne, or both. Our skin is going through a lot of changes, including losing collagen and gaining extra pounds and saggy skin. But, we don’t have to sit back and take it. There are things you can do to age gracefully and beautifully so that your skin doesn’t look so tired. Here are some steps to take to do this.
- Part of aging skin care is to use sunscreen. The more we protect our skin from the harmful UV rays, the better our skin will look over time. A huge added bonus is the protection against skin care.
- The second part of your skin care should be cleansing your skin properly and using moisturizers for your skin type. If you have oily skin, you may need a special type of moisturizer.
- Next is eating well. If we get the proper nutrition, including essential vitamins like vitamin C, it can help our skin make more collagen – helping our skin to be elastic.
- Lastly, exfoliating is very important. When we exfoliate, we remove dead skin cells that can either clog our pores or make our skin look dull. With oily skin, dead skin cells get stuck and they need help being removed. With dry skin, those cells get stuck in the crevices of our skin, causing our skin to have that dull look. Neither look is attractive so it’s important to choose the right exfoliator and to do it regularly.
So, if you’re too embarrassed to wear bathing suits, it’s time to re-evaluate your skin care regimen and make some additions to it. You are beautiful, no matter what so be proud of how you look and do the best you can do stay healthy and happy – because that’s the most important thing.
