Why skin grows old
We all age and therefore, get old. But, does out skin need to? I’ll tell you why skin grows old and what you can do about it.
Dead skin cells
Our skin is amazing. Our skin replenishes itself on a regular basis. So, if we lose dead skin cells and your skin is renewed on its own every month or so, why is it that we age and grow old? Wouldn’t it seem right that we shouldn’t grow old? As logical as it may or may not be, unfortunately this is not the case and we do grow older each day. As each day goes by, we may in fact, lose dead skin cells and gain new ones. The problem is that the new cells don’t grow as fast so parts of your skin become thicker and not very even. Also, anytime you hurt your skin, you cause damage even if you can barely tell there is any damage at all. From the outside, it may look like there is no damage but, on the inside, there definitely is. Then, add the damaging affects of UV rays and your skin gets damaged even more. Our skin becomes less elastic and unable to bounce back – contributing to wrinkles. This is the biggest reason on what causes wrinkles.
Ways we damage our skin
There are several ways our skin gets damaged. Here are the most common:
- Cuts
- Burns
- Acne lesions, especially if not given adequate time to heal
- Sun exposure, which causes UV damage
Strong muscles
You may not think that muscles have anything to do with how your skin looks but think about it. The more toned your muscles, doesn’t your skin look better? So, if the muscles underneath your skin are weak, wrinkles actually become more prominent and your skin will start to droop. Skin will stretch and we feel older than we should. So, one of the biggest anti-aging tips I can give is to stay in relatively good shape.
Free radicals
Then, there are free radicals – not a good thing. These are oxygen molecules where electrons somehow get lost. So, they have to steal from other molecules just to become whole again. When we don’t lead a healthy lifestyle: too much sun exposure, smoking, etc, it really becomes an issue. The not so “free” free radicals make our skin less elastic and we look and feel older. Here are just some foods to eat to combat free radicals:
- Tomatoes
- Nuts
- Fish
- Green tea
Here is a more complete list of the 12 best foods to eat to help improve skin.
These are all reasons why skin grows old. But, there is something you can do to improve your skin. Take in antioxidants. Eat raw and unprocessed foods and you’ll be getting a ton of antioxidants. Be wrinkle free, remove that dead skin and I’ll bet you look and feel amazing!
