Wrinkles and Lines

Ah, the lines on our face tell a story but we don’t need to tell the world!  We want to erase the wrinkles and lines we start seeing, but how can we do this?

Why we wrinkle

Life – we can’t get away from it and part of life is getting older.  Getting older – aging – means wrinkles and fine lines.  Not fun.  It’s a part of life because our skin starts to sag and dry out but that doesn’t mean we have to stand by and let it happen quickly.  There are things we can do to help slow down wrinkles and lines or keep them at bay.

My Story

We all have a story.  I was always focused on my skin – mainly because I didn’t like how it looked.  I was a typical teenager that had skin issues but I lacked the knowledge and the support to learn about my skin.  I didn’t know what it needed so I would listen to the marketing and all the hype about certain ‘miracle’ products.  I was so focused on acne that I didn’t know anything about hormonal issues nor did I care so much about sunscreen or staying out of the sun.  That obviously wasn’t the right approach but that’s what happened.  When I started getting wrinkles and lines is when I started to pay more attention.

It’s the name of the game – when it’s not staring at us in the face, we aren’t paying attention to it.  Just like we know we need to eat well and exercise, but sometimes we fall short because we think we are feeling OK.  That is, until we go to the doctor and they tell us our triglycerides are too high or our Body Mass Index (BMI) isn’t where it should be.  Or, maybe your hormones are out of whack and we get brain fog.  Whatever it is, we lose sight of it while life is going on.

Start today!

The most important thing to do is start where you are.  That means starting today.  Don’t worry about the past 5, 10, or 20+ years that you didn’t do anything.  There’s nothing you can do about the past; you can only look forward and do something about the present and the future.  Start being proactive today so that you can start seeing the results tomorrow.  Here are the top tips to be (almost) wrinkle free…

  1. The most important thing you can do to keep skin hydrated is to drink plenty of water.  Part of this includes limiting alcohol intake.  The more alcohol we consume, the more dehydrated we become so less alcohol, more water!
  2. Watch your diet.  Veggies and other whole foods are essential to keep our bodies in tip top shape.  If you’re eating a lot of sodium, things need to change!  Doing this will help with any inflammation in your body and improve our skin.  You need an ample supply of vitamins and minerals, such as zinc, selenium and vitamin E.
  3. Watch your time in the sun and wear that sunblock!  When you see people that have ‘worshiped the sun’, you can see that they didn’t think about what their skin would look like when they get older.  Pamper your skin and be good to it.

Conclusion

No matter what your skin looks like, you can start today.  If you have fine lines, you can diminish them and you can try to prevent more from showing up.  Learning and always improving is a part of life.  The more informed you are, the happier you’ll be.  The good news is that the knowledge you gain could help save your skin, your life and even money because you aren’t spending so much on health care.  Keep those wrinkles and lines away – start today!
