Crystal clean environment
If you’re looking to purify our environment, I’ll give you some tips for that crystal clean environment you’re searching for.

Toxic environment
Unfortunately, toxins are all around us. We can’t control everything and so we need to live with the toxins that are created. The more toxins we accumulate in our bodies, the more we can get sick. This isn’t meant to scare you or cause you to throw your hands up in exasperation, it’s to let you know that you can let go of the things you can’t control but be empowered to control what you can.
Crystal clean environment
In order to purify your environment, keep in mind all the different toxins can poison us and choose how to make changes from there. To help you get started, here are my top 5 tips for that crystal clean environment you are yearning for:
- Open the windows
- Get some houseplants
- Recycle, reduce, reuse
- Consume less
- Ride your bike or take a walk
Open the Windows
Opening your windows in your home lets the fresh air in and filters out the chemicals that are in your home. If you use any chemical cleaning products in your home, it would be a good idea to start using a non-chemical version – either buy them or make your own. Here’s a recipe for a laundry detergent I use on a regular basis. If you don’t use any chemical cleaning products, great but know that products in your home (i.e. carpet, furniture, cosmetic products) are giving off toxic chemicals so opening the windows helps filter these out.
Get some houseplants
Houseplants are a great way to filter the air inside our homes. Get some for every room of the house. Again, you can either buy them or you may know of a friend who has too many and is willing to share them. All you need to be mindful of is the following:
- Know the requirements for taking care of each plant.
- Pay attention to lighting – some plants need more light than others.

Recycle, reduce, and reuse
Start decluttering your life and being a constant consumer. Recycle what you have by properly recycling your glass, plastic, and paper, etc. Reduce your footprint – you don’t need to constantly buy new clothes, etc. Lastly, re-use things you have. Is it possible to repurpose some items? I’ve found I could re-use my moist wipes container for my dryer sheets. Strive for Zero Waste!

Consume less
This goes together with reducing. Be mindful of what you are buying. Don’t buy just to buy. We don’t need that much. If the pandemic has taught me anything, it’s that I don’t need a lot to survive. I have enough. (It’s also taught me to appreciate the people in my life more!)
Ride your bike or take a walk
Reduce your reliance on your car, and thus, gasoline. This will help the pollution in your city. Plus, riding your bike or taking a walk is good for you and you get some fresh air along with the exercise. Bonus!
I love to do both but walking may be my favorite. I’ve read somewhere that walking has about 75% of the same benefits as running. If you’re a runner, great – good for you! (Although you may need to deal with those foot calluses!) Point here is that both are beneficial. And, when you want to do something different, take your bike to the park and ride those trails. If you can’t get to the park or there isn’t one close by, ride in your neighborhood. Even a leisurely ride around the block feels wonderful!

Summing up
All of this can help with depression, anxiety and the crystal clean environment you are striving for!
