DIY Micellar Water
Endocrine disruptors are everywhere – including your make-up remover. That’s why I wanted to show you how to make your own DIY Micellar Water – it’s cheap, easy and won’t disrupt your hormones!
What is micellar water?
If you’ve never heard of micellar water, you’re in for a treat! This product is so wonderful – that is, if you can find it without the chemicals in it. It’s great for removing make-up, including eye makeup. It’s so gentle and it’s my Number 1 way to remove my eye make-up.

Recently, I posted about endocrine disruptors in micellar water. But, what is it exactly?
Main ingredients
- Water (of course)
- Some type of oil – one that won’t clog pores
How does it work?
The beauty of this product is that it can remove make-up very gently. The problem is that all these skin care / beauty companies want to formulate the next best micellar water – they’re basically marketing to you so that you think they have the best one. But, if you look at what’s on the market, you’ll notice that a lot of them have chemicals in them.

These chemicals are not what you want to use on your face to remove face make-up. And, they are definitely not what you want to use to remove eye make-up.

Do they work? Sure, they do…but do you really want to use chemicals on your face when you don’t have to – especially when it’s so easy and cheap to make your own?
What we don’t realize is that the chemicals we are using, no matter how small in quantity, add up. If there are even small amounts in your eye make-up, eye make-up remover, toothpaste, soap, exfoliators, etc., etc., those can add up to cause problems for your hormones. I’m sure you don’t need any more problems than you might already have!

So, let’s get started on making our own!
DIY Micellar Water Recipe
For a 2 ounce bottle of your very own DIY micellar water, you will need the following:
- Bottle
- 3 Tbsp distilled water (you can also use a lavender hydrosol)
- 1 tsp vegetable glycerin – this is a humectant (this means it draws moisture to your skin and who doesn’t need more moisture!)
- 3 drops of a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, broccoli seed oil or vitamin E oil*
- Aloe vera juice (optional ingredient)
Note: an added benefit of using vitamin E oil is that it will help preserve the water. The reason why you don’t want to make a large batch is because it will expire. As with anything natural, it doesn’t contain any chemical preservative. That’s a good thing but that also means that you will have to make small batches or keep in your refrigerator.
Another Note: you can use any type of carrier oil. I suggest sweet almond oil or broccoli seed oil because they are light and won’t clog pores. This is imperative if you’re trying to avoid acne. Jojoba oil is also a good carrier oil.
Directions:
This is so easy to do! All you need to do is place all ingredients in a bowl and mix together. You can use a spoon or a whisk. Mix it together and then pour into your bottle.

Now you can start using your water to remove make-up and you don’t have to worry about the toxins anymore!
