Why are trans fats bad
A fat is fat, right? Well, not really. There are healthy fats and then there are trans fats. Why are trans fats bad for you and how can you avoid eating them?
What are trans fats and why are trans fats bad?
Trans fats are found in many foods. Unfortunately, they’re found in foods that taste so yummy – at least to our brains. Our brains get addicted to the feeling and then we’re hooked. But what are trans fats anyway? Here are just a few examples and this will give you a basis of what types of foods to avoid:

- Anything fried, such as french fries, chips, processed cakes / muffins. So good, right? But, we know we shouldn’t eat them regularly!
- Processed foods – foods found in the frozen food section or ‘boxed’ foods. These are there for convenience but they are not good for us.
- Fast food. – another convenience. So, so bad!
- Basically, junk food

I know this is hard to hear because there’s a convenience factor of why we buy these foods. Our lives are busy and we don’t always have time to prepare our own meals. But there is good reason to avoid these since they contain trans-fat.
As for what trans-fat is and why are trans fats bad? Well, it basically means that hydrogen was part of it so that it becomes solid and more shelf stable. Have you ever wondered why the box of processed cheese isn’t in the refrigerator section? It’s because it’s not real cheese! Sure, it’s convenient, but it is not good for you and our bodies weren’t made to be able to ingest these types of non-foods!

We’re not nourishing ourselves by eating processed foods because they’re not really food. They may look like real food but they aren’t. That cheese isn’t really cheese – it isn’t really food.
What are trans fats unhealthy
These types of fats are not good for you because they cause all kinds of health problems. Not only can they cause issues in our bodies like cancers, weight gain, and heart problems but they can also cause skin issues. If you have acne, it could be because of the foods you are eating.
I know there was a lot of debate a few years ago on whether foods cause acne. If you are eating toxins, they have to be pushed out in some way and one of those ways is through our skin – in the form of acne.

These foods accumulate toxins in our bodies, causing hormone disruption. All of this accumulates in your body and then you start seeing health issues. One builds on another until you eventually are in such poor health, you don’t even know what hit you. So, this is why trans fats are bad.
Fatty acids
The good news is that there are healthy fats and these are what we want to focus on eating. They include the Omega’s (3, 6, & 9). We need to get these in the right combination because if one is more than another, this can lead to inflammation. Eat to reduce inflammation so you have better health. One way to do this is by:
- Eliminate one day of either fast food, processed foods or any other convenience food.
- Add an extra serving of a healthy fat to one meal.
If you suffer from migraines like I do and if you’ve wondered why are trans fats bad, you’ll want to heal your inflammation and the best way to do this is by eating more healthy fats like nuts and avocados! Your hormones AND your skin will thank you!
