Why you shouldn’t eat hot dogs on Labor Day
Everyone loves the All-American hot dog! Should you eat them? Here’s why you shouldn’t eat hot dogs on Labor Day, though.
The All-American Hot Dog
I mean, who doesn’t love a hot dog? Grilled, they’re delicious! And, what about the boiled dog – If you’ve never ever tried a Chicago dog, you are missing out! I had one of these great concoctions at a baseball game in Chicago (duh!) and I fell in love. So why you shouldn’t eat hot dogs on Labor Day might be confusing to you – especially when I’m telling you they are so good.

Why you shouldn’t eat hot dogs on Labor Day
The problem with hot dogs and why you shouldn’t eat hot dogs on Labor Day (or any day of the year) is actually quite simple. Most hot dogs contain sodium nitrates and sodium nitrites. These additives / preservatives can cause cancer, especially in young kids.

In fact, any processed meat is a concern. It’s even found in fast food. Discouraging! That means bacon and lunch meat (such as ham, salami, etc.) are problematic.

Don’t be discouraged, though – I don’t want to take away hot dogs or bacon from your life.

How can you still enjoy life without hot dogs?
The good news is that you don’t have to! According to the EWG, what you need to do is find the nitrite / nitrate free hot dogs. As long as the hot dog does not contain these ingredients, you are much better off if you choose these options. The toxins in foods can really cause problems with your health – whether it be cancer or skin problems. Look for the healthier options because this will give you a better chance of feeling and looking better. It may seem insignificant but whole foods are healthier and there is a reason for it.
Toxic foods that contain preservatives like nitrates and nitrites can cause health problems. Staying away from these foods is essential if you want to live a healthy, happy life.
