Benefits of Cacao Nibs

Do you know the benefits of cacao nibs?  Do you even know what these are?  These delicious and nutritious nibs should be added to your diet today!

What are cacao nibs?

You can think of a nib as a chip – kind of like a chocolate chip – but a cacao chip.  They are actually crushed cacao beans.  And, what do they taste like?  Well, they have a slight chocolate flavor but they are also on the bitter side.  I don’t typically like ‘bitter’ tasting foods but I do like cacao nibs.  Plus, they’re loaded with nutrients that are so good for you and have very little sugar.

When looking for cacao nibs, you can get these raw or roasted.

Not only do these taste great and have low sugar, but they also contain a bunch of beneficial nutrients like:

  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Manganese
  • Copper

Iron

If you’re low on iron – i.e. if you’re anemic – as so many women are, getting more iron in your diet is key.  Eating a serving of cacao nibs gives you 6% of your daily recommended intake.  Wake up with cacao nibs in your breakfast smoothie!  So yummy!

Magnesium

Along with iron and a magnesium deficiency, you may feel tired all the time.  In addition, you may feel anxious.  Having an adequate amount of magnesium will help your nervous system and your mental health.

By the way, almonds are also high in magnesium!  We love almonds!

Zinc

There isn’t much talk about zinc but the benefits of cacao nibs include zinc.  Zinc helps the healing of cuts and other wounds.  Plus, zinc helps with how attentive we are; if you seem to be drifting into la la land, you may need more zinc in your diet.

Manganese

Manga what?  Yes, manganese is a nutrient that is needed by our bodies.  If you have low fertility issues, you may be deficient in manganese.  There’s a whopping 27% in one serving of cacao nibs.  Are you starting to see the benefits of cacao nibs yet?
