Social Media Pretending
We’d all like everything to be perfect in life but that can’t be true so we try to make it look perfect. This causes Social Media Pretending.
What is Social Media Pretending?
Social Media Pretending is what it sounds like. We ‘pretend’ to be perfect on social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, etc. because we want to project a perfect life to those around us and those that follow us.

Unfortunately, having a perfect life isn’t achievable. There are ups and downs in life and this is normal…so, we pretend. We act like life is wonderful. There is a portrayal of a life we’d like to have. And, while we all know life can’t be perfect 100% of the time, we still strive for it. But, this causes our brains to feel badly for what we don’t have or worse, for lying about the true situation in our lives. In fact, it was recently written about in an article over the Holidays.

Positivity vs. Negativity
While I don’t think that we should try to portray a perfect life, I also am not saying to dwell on all the negative aspects. Bad things happen and we do have to confront and deal with those things. The bottom line here is that if you are faking how you feel, this is social media pretending. Know that you don’t have to post anything. If you aren’t feeling good, there’s no need to feel like you have to post something, just to post something. And, it is OK to post imperfection. This makes you ‘YOU’ and you shouldn’t feel bad about it.
I have always strived to be authentic, and I hope you do to. Post the truth – make it a New Year’s Resolution this first week of the year. Speak your truth! You’ll be happier for it!
