Clean hairbrushes
I’m going to change topics today and talk about clean hairbrushes. Cleaning your brushes helps to remove oils and dead skin cells that could clog your pores. How often do you clean yours?
Why bother to clean hairbrushes?
Why even talk about cleaning your hairbrush? I mean, we generally are brushing our hair after we take a shower and our hair is already clean. But there are times throughout the day that you brush your hair presumably after you’ve already put product on your hair. Whether it’s hair gel, smoothing lotion, or hairspray these products stick to the bristles and contaminate it.

This is why it is a good idea to clean your brushes every so often – you don’t want to brush all that product back into your clean hair. Those oils and dirt can eventually make it to your skin causing breakouts.

We don’t think about it, but that’s what’s happening. So, what is the proper way to do it?

Step by step hairbrush cleaning
It’s not hard to clean your hairbrushes but you do have to set aside a few minutes to do it.

- Take a pair of scissors and cut through some of the hair that is embedded in the brush, making them easier to remove.
- Fill your bathroom sink with water and a drop of liquid soap. I use castile soap.
- Using a designated toothbrush, dip your hairbrush in the water and scrub the brush with the toothbrush.
- Empty the sink and run clean, fresh, cool water on the brush.
- Shake off any excess water, then lay on a clean hand towel to completely dry.
That’s it – it really is easy to have clean hairbrushes, but you need to commit the time to doing it regularly. You can also do this with your combs. Staying committed to this will help you have clean hair tools and blemish free skin. It doesn’t have to be expensive to have clear skin – you just have to know what to do and if that means changing your routine slightly, it’s worth it in my book.
